Iggy Moleka Announces Retirement

The man whose name is synonymous with the Atlanta Silverbacks and soccer in this city is finally hanging up his boots. After four years of gracing the field, scoring goals, setting records and winning the hearts of fans, Ignace "Iggy" Moleka is making his final curtain call.

He will be pulling on his familiar #14 jersey for the last time during a regular season home game this Sunday, August 25 at 6pm at DeKalb Memorial Stadium when the Atlanta Silverbacks take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Join us in honoring the prolific striker who has left an indelible mark on the sport of soccer and helped to build a franchise from its humble origins in 1999 to its perennial playoff status in 2002.

In 91 games with the Silverbacks, Iggy has scored 47 goals, accumulated 108 points, and played 6,890 minutes, all franchise records.

There will be a special ceremony honoring Iggy before the game and he will be available for autographs down by the field after the game. He will also have a special edition signed player card commemorating the event to give out to fans while they last and the game day program will feature a profile, stats and pictures of the goal scoring legend.

Also remember, it's Team Poster Night this Sunday. The first 500 fans through the gates will get a team poster featuring your 2002 Atlanta Silverbacks. This is a great opportunity to get your poster signed by all the Silverbacks players or to get Iggy Moleka's autograph for the very last time.

Don't miss this exciting time in Atlanta's soccer history as your Silverbacks continue to strengthen their playoff position and streak into the post season.

I got the press release and had to ask myself why he is not going to play in the post season, or did I read it wrong?
