Aston Villa currently sit in fourth place and are in better form than Arsenal. Are they capable of holding onto their lead or will Arsenal be able to put their lackluster showings behind them and finish ahead or could another side make a late push? This decade only three teams, Leeds, Newcastle and Everton, have managed to breach the top four. Can Aston Villa make that final step and join them?

i guess you could sum up by saying the leagues not very intresting.unless of course you support the big four.

I think they will need to do some smart recruiting to hold off Arsenal.

No looking back from here on out, it's Villa's time to shine.

I said UEFA Cup, because there will need to be some signings before the squad is capable of maintaining this for a full season. An injury to Agbonlahor or Young would be devastating. Carew is out and MON is playing 4-5-1 because he doesn't have any confidence in the only other available striker- Harewood. If he can get 2 solid strikers then maybe it could happen.

I am an Arsenal fan, and i see Villa getting the Champions League spot because of the team chemistry you guys have. You guys are a club with no lockeroom distractions since the summer with Gareth. Martin O'Neill is a class manager and you guys arent afraid to spend a little money while Arsenal only buys youngsters. Now if 7/11 get injuried then things would be bad but if they r healthy Aston Villa might have this

It will probably come down to what changes Arsenal makes during the transfer window, surely they must be thinking of adding some experience. The other thing will be how well Villa cover themselves against Gab or Young getting injured cos as it stands they have no cover for those 2.

Here's hoping you finish above Arsenal and hopefully Manure.

Cesc's injury will certainly have an impact on the race. Too bad Everton have had so many injuries up front and have been shite at Goodison or else there could be quite a battle going on. I'd love to see Villa stay in touch with 2nd and 3rd place, not that I think they'll put up a serious title challenge but anything is possible with the big boys dropping points like they are. They are going to have to do some of their own work and get results against the "big 4" as well.

Huge match coming up tomorrow... could be a historic turning point for both clubs.. if Arsenal win then they leapfrog over the Villans and you'd have to say it was just another case of pretenders trying in vain to crack the big four. If Villa win though, they'd be six points clear and you'd have to say in a great position to qualify for the Champions League for the first time ever (or since its current inception).

Arsenal are a wounded animal at the moment and could very well be beaten tomorrow... should be a good game.

I think they'll finish 3rd above Liverpool.

Heskey could prove to be a coup for O'neill.

The way things are going it wouldn't surprise me if they finished 2nd or 3rd. At worst I think they'll finish 4th.

If Carew comes back and A.Young keeps out of trouble they can take the whole thing. But if they can't do any better than they did against Wigan AT home.............:(

They play like a team. They believe in the coach. The coach knows how to coach. They are realistic in their approach to the league, and none of the “top 4” are taking them seriously. O’Neill said that they look at Aston Villa as a wasp, more annoying then a contender. We should have won today but luck was against us. We don’t look as tired as I thought we would and I think there is the mental toughness to keep this going.
4th at least.

IMO we will finish 5th. We have a tough run of games with a thin squad. MON didn't address the needs of a true goalscorer and a dependable left back.

We drew Wigan today and we have much tougher opponents.

All that is needed is a few flashes of brilliance by Arsenal to overcome that five point gap.

Europa Cup here we come!

I think Villa will finish above Arsenal. SIgnalling the end of Wenger English tenure.

I think Wenger is heading back to France this summer and he is already thinking about it. He can’t win anything this year and the fans are getting tired of him. I really like him but I think is time has past. I like Arsenal but their time has past.
It is Aston Villa’s time, and in 2 years we take the league title. None of the current “top 4” mangers will be coaching in the Premier league by then. As long as O’Neill stays with the club we will do it.

We will not take the title... at least not in the next 5 years. Man City will be buying up all the stars the next two years. Man Utd squad is too strong they could easily go undefeated before Ferguson retires.

I just don't see it happening we are getting way ahead of ourselves.

I won't say we will the title this year or in the next 5, but Man City buying up talent is not a problem if they are buying the wrong talent. Putting 11 stars on a side is not neccasarily a recipe for success, as has been shown many times. Even Robinho has expressed some concerns about this strategy. As for Man U going undefeated, not likely. Dominant possibly but not undefeated.
