View Full Version : FINAL POLL :: Who's your choice for head coach?

In Steve Goff's latest article (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88109), Technical Director Dave Kasper confirmed the three candidates for the post.

Who's your choice?

Knave, you may feel the need to merge this back into one of the preexisting threads, but I felt the official confirmation of candidates warranted a fresh poll.

:: Please add comments in the thread supporting your decision so this thread is more than just a poll ::

...

Mod's Note: I just modified the link so we don't have two threads discussing the exact same article. Let's keep this thread focused on the poll and our reasons for preferring one finalist to the others. If you want to discuss the particulars of Goff’s piece please head over to the other thread.

I voted for Osorio based on his comments to Ives Galarcep in the story that came out last week. He sounded like he had a well-considered philosophy on how to manage a team in MLS.

I don't know what Nowak/Hamlett have to say on the same topic, I'm just going on what I've read so far.

I'm still really rather intrigued by Nowak. While the team may do better with a more experienced coach, there still seems to have something about him and makes me think that he would be "very" good for this team. Change the teams focus back into the game and being United. Plus, he's young enough that he could be around for a while before deciding to retire.

Nah, but maybe we should keep the bulk of the discussion about the article in the other thread. That's here: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88109

I get the impression that Hamlett is pretty far behind in the running but I suspect he'll end up as head coach somewhere in MLS sooner or later. Between the two major candidates I have to go with Osorio too. That's a really tough call though. Nowak knows MLS and that's a big deal for me. But something about Osorio inspires confidence in me. I can't pin it down exactly but I know it was something in the Galarcep article that Lowecifer mentioned above. I was just really impressed with what I read about him. He strikes me as serious, deliberate, thoughtful, intelligent and innovative. That's no disrepect to Nowak. It's just that, in the end, Nowak is the kind of guy I want captaining my team but Osorio is the kind of guy I want running practice and deciding lineups.

Nowak. But I admit to ignorance of the other two. If Peter brings the same intensity to coaching that he brought to playing, he wil be a godsend. Plus, he was always just a class act, not to say the other two aren't.

I picked Osorio. I like his experience, though I wish he had more field responsibilities at City. But he has so many positives, and a coach with no experience is too much of a risk.

I liked what I read about Ororio. But having some familiarity with MLS and american players in general is a plus.

Nowak would be a great assistant. He is a great player, but there are to many questions about if he can translate that into coaching.

Hamlett is the man for the job.

Osorio was an assistant for the Metrostars.

Osorio over Nowak because Nowak probably needs some assistant coaching experience first to be successful and Osorio over Hamlett because Hamlett just doesn't have the credentials Osorio has.

I vote for Nowak because he's a proven professional in the MLS with a great career behind him. Great career players are the product of different styles of coaching they've been brought up with thru the years.

No pre-concieved notions, no formulas for success, no expectations.

I think that a new pair of eyes can and will be good for this team. Nowak was a player much in the Hristo mold that played a 100% and expected that from the rest of his team.

Call it a hunch, but I think Nowak's our man.....

Hamlett.

Gotta represent the George Mason connection, and I think he'd do a good job to boot.

Nowak based on a gut feeling.

Another thing …

Maybe I’m just paranoid but I can’t help but recall how we passed on Yallop and passed on Sarachan, how our timing wasn’t quite right and how those good coaches who we could have had instead slipped through our hands. I’ve already agonized about how we’re passing on Onalfo who I think will one day be a top rank MLS coach and then when I look at Osorio ... Maybe I don’t have a good basis for feeling this but I have this terrible sinking feeling that we’ll live to regret it if we pass on Osorio.

None of the above.

Write in vote: Bob Bradley

I'll have to admit, I like both of the top two on the list, and I wouldn't be upset in any way if one was chosen over the other.

I voted for Osorio, because in a year or two Nowak would pull a Bradley (No I am not talking about the 4th sub).

This is off topic, but I also feel that Onalfo, having
Simpson as assistant would work.

Do any of you think if Hamlett was brought in Novak would be hired as an assistant, or vice versa? I think that the combination of the two would be the best option.

I was all for the Man City guy, but I will go with Chico on this. The only man I will (almost) follow blindly.

Hope your right bud.
