It's already been stated that if he does not make the Champions League he will be fired. I firmly believe Liverpool will not make the Champions League. Now the question becomes what will he do next. I don't think he should go to coach another big club in Italy or Spain. He's had the health problems and I dont think he wants the stress and pressure of coaching another huge club. So my suggestion and prediction is he goes back to France and becomes manager of Lille OSC. Lille was in the Champions League a few years ago but since then they've been sliding down hill fast. Houllier can go there and turn their fortunes around. Build them back up into a top club. Its not a huge club so their wont be much pressure and they'll probably let him run the club and do whatever he wants. If not Lille he should look at a Montpellier or Strasbourg, two other decent options for him. Of course if he doesnt want to manage anymore after Liverpool then this is all for naut.

I can't see him managing a small club like montpellier, strasbourg or lille...

strasbourg and lille coaches are doing a good job, montpellier has one of the lowest budgets, i don't think he wants to join a poor club
