I have been drooling over Ashley Young for a couple of seasons now man, lol... it has nothing to do with his recent form... and when Bentley was 'hot' last year, I never wanted him on our team, he aint good enough

Bentley and Young are also two completely different players... Young is two footed, has pace, can play on both wings and uptop, can finish, has great vision, great crossing, passing, intelligent, etc... be serious here... the guy would WALK into our squad... over Theo, over Nasri

idiots in the other thread, bias? youngs a better player than alot of our 'wingers'

hes simply a quality player, i doubted him cus i hate the villa and i thought his fee was extortionate but hes proved me wrong

hes 100 times better than denilson or diaby on the flanks and better than nasri and theo by this seasons form

if he wasnt english id say the same

Ashley Young is a £20 million player... and that is without the English inflation...

Me too. For me he would be a great addition to the squad. He's more of a natural midfield player than Theo so I agree that he'd walk into the squad past Theo (By that I mean Theo is more of a striker...he doesn't really have the defensive instincts of a midfield player) but I don't think he'd walk in over Nasri. I guess in my mind if we pick up Young or someone like him...it would almost be closest we've come since the decline/departure of Pires/Ljungberg to replicating that form in midfield. I think once Nasri adapts to the PL, which won't happen until he gets a consistent run of games (he's had a lot of little niggling injuries so far) he's going to start doing a lot of the stuff Pires used to do. Young, although he doesn't expressly remind me of Ljungberg, does have the pace and the ability to do a lot of the similar things (bursting into the box, runs down the wing, etc, etc.).

With wing play like that I think we'll optimize Cesc's ability in that he'll have a creative player out there (Nasri) to play the quick passing game and a runner to provide outlet/through balls to (Young/other natural winger).

The problem with targeting Young is that we're going to have to put at least 15m on the table to get him from Villa and I don't see that happening (if Villa were able to hold out for 18m or whatever it was for Barry...they'll definitely have the guts to hold onto Young unti someone puts at least 15m on the table b/c he's a lot younger and has a bigger upside at this point in his career than Barry). Plus, we have to stay in a CL spot...if by some disaster we finish 5th and Villa finish 4th....we won't be able to get him even for a big transfer fee.

Young is more unattainable than Silva. The only clubs I could see him going to are manutd (when they sell ronaldo) or man city. In addition to the high fee you have to take into account that we are now Villa's main rival, they would probably refuse to sell to us even if we offered 25m.

There aren't any wide players who are good enough to step in and start AND within the realm of possibility for us, so I hope we wait until the summer where we may stand a better chance sneak in and grab a great player for less than market value.

Other than DM, I hope we wait until the summer to make any other signings. There is no point getting fifth or sixth choice players now and achieving the same result at the end of the season, and then when we get a chance to start fresh be stuck with some inferior players.

If we get David Villa, I'll be very happy, but if he is the only signing this Jan., I won't be happy at all. We need some players who can help us defensively.

How many times have we heard this without the necesssary purchases being made?

Not buying it till I see a couple of players at the press conference with the jerseys.

First off, I'd probably drop dead out of shock if it were true that Arsenal will be "splashing cash" in January.

Second, although I think David Villa is a great player and as much as I would love to see him in Arsenal colors...if we're going to "splash cash" as this article speculates...I hope we do it in positions where we're noticeably short of depth and talent (in my estimation we need the following to mount a serious challenge for a title...2 CM's, LW, RW, CB). We've got two strikers who are both on course for 20+ goal seasons (Ade, RvP), Eduardo coming back, Bendtner, Vela, Walcott and Simpson. We're not short of talent or depth at striker. Although David Villa is pretty strong for his size he'd still need an adjustment period so it's really no different than Eduardo coming back and probably not completely finding his feet until the beginning of next season.

OR...you could actually say what it is that makes it "absurd"....

I really don't see what's absurd about saying Nasri looks like he could turn into a Pires type player and that Young/another more natural wing player would equate to the Ljungberg side of that combo.

Thus a Nasri/Young(or other natural wing player) combo is comparable to Pires/Ljungberg combo in terms of what options each combo brings.... in that one side provides a crafty and creative outlet (pires & nasri) and the other provides a skillful, but slightly faster and slightly more direct outlet (ljungberg & Young or other more natural wing player). I'm not saying a Nasri/Young combo would immediately be as deadly as the Pires/Ljungberg combo was....I'm saying Nasri + a natural right winger could bring the same type of options to the table as the Pires/Ljungberg combo did. And the Pires/Ljungberg combo served us quite well...so why not try to replicate it?

comparing young to ljungberg is absurd. ljungberg had class, he was composed, smooth. young is like I said, an average English talent that counts how many step overs he'll do before he does it. he's not creative.

his main assest is his speed. we already have Theo who is younger, has more potential and has had the privledge of learning from class players like Ljungberg, Rosicky, Hleb, Henry. Who is already making his name known internationally with England.

You guys want results, that's fine, I understand. But let me assure you the answer is not some overhyped, uncreative robot.

that and Arsenal doesn't even sound right...believe it when I see it

Does Villa want to come? Does Valencia want to sell? And what price will he fetch? How soon will he adapt? And is he what we need at this moment?
A fit on form striker rotation of Ade-RVP-Edu is lethal with Bendtner being 4th choice. I don't think goalscoring is our current problem.
It's goal creating from midfield. Desperately in need of a pacy-direct wing player for our first 11 and a tough tackling box-box or pure defensive DM. If we address those issues and more importantly the latter, we'll look like a whole new team.

Young is not average and he's underrated. Like DaPrince said his skill set is good enough to displace Theo and Nasri ATM. He looked impressive when Watford were promoted in 06/07 and if he keeps improving like he has been then he'll be a top player for England. Young could be a great player for us, but I don't see us spending 15+m quid. Plus we got JFW!!!

He hasn't displaced Walcott for England. What makes you sure he would for Arsenal?
