Old news but a few interesting quotes including this one ...
"Personally, I was happy," said Nelsen, "but still I have a bitter taste in my mouth in the way we departed the playoffs. We were a bunch of individuals and never really looked like [a team]."

Do you know what I found most interesting of Haydons article? That he threw in all kinds of futbol tidbits besides the Nellie angle.
Freddy and BBall, Robinson maybe going to the Scum. McBride and Rovers and Boca...
Could it be we might have TWO fulltime serious soccer writers in town?
be still my heart.....

It's good to get some soccer news at this time of the year.

The Nelsen quotes read to me anyway like someone who had some serious talks and suiters but they've all fallen through. And it sounds bad to say "no-ones interested" or "they all sniffed and then turned up their noses." So instead, to say "I wasn't pushing myself, want to return to DCU next season and some teams have been inquiring" helps keep the door open, retains his pride, doesn't upset fans by making it look like he's pushing to leave. In short, sounds to me like Nelsen's agent has told him he'll be back in Washington next season.
I too like the extra content in the article.

Did that article say that Blackburn is only willing to pay $170,000 for McBride? Please tell me I read that wrong and that they are 170k apart. I mean that is a serious insult to someone of McBride's ability and to MLS. What do the Brits think that we Yanks are stupid and don't know our football?WTF!!!!

Blackburn want McBride to join fellow American goalie Brad Friedel in England for a few months, but MLS is asking more than the $170,000 the club is willing to pay. ...
Maybe it's a typo.

The Mcbride deal doesn't seemthat bad if you consider they are only getting him on loan.

$170k for a 3 month loan.
Sounds like a good deal to me.
Although, knowing McBride, he'll come back hurt and not be ready for the MLS season.

Yeah $170K is so insulting for 2-3 months work, I wish I could get insulted like that. This is a loan, not a transfer. Typically when a player is loaned out the acquiring team only pays for the players salary for that time period he is with the team. Looks like Blackburn is willing to pay more than that at $170K for a few months. I think MLS is being dumb and trying to get some extra vig out of BB in what is still a depressed transfer market. We should be happy to send him off because there are other strikers out there and if BB is smart they'll just move along. I'm sure Friedel had some input into this move which is why BB even looked in the first place.

Isn't McBride the player who scored a goal a game for Everton last Spring? - Wouldn't they want him again?

170k for 2.5 months places McBride's Salary at 68K per/month. I don't think he makes that much in the MLS. The MLS should just accept the deal.
Yes for a loan you can expect the club depending on its size and stature to pay the players salary during the Loan spell. 68K a month means McBride would earn about $812,000 for 12 Months. We know he doesn't earn that much so..basically its MLS greed. Accept the loan.
I thought McBride scored 4 in 8 matches.

He does not, there is no way, he only makes 68k.

I think you mis-read... but you're right, there's NO WAY he makes $68k PER MONTH. not in the MLS!!!
