The Australian Soccer Association (ASA) has refused to comment on reports that outgoing Australian Rugby Union boss John O'Neill has been approachedto run soccer's new Premier League next year.
"All I will say on that is that we continue to search for a capable candidate from Australia and around the world," the spokesman said.
"Anyone can apply."
O'Neill last week called it quits at the ARU after eight years, capped off by the wildly successful World Cup.
A Sydney newspaper on Wednesday quoted a source saying that ASA chairman Frank Lowy is chasing O'Neill to head up the new Premier League, scheduled to begin in late 2004.
In the past, O'Neill has expressed reluctance to get involved in soccer, which has traditionally had administration troubles.
