Simple really, name what you think are the 10 best leagues in the world and why you've placed the majority of the leagues in the order you decide to lay down.

Mine

1) Spanish
2) English
3) Italian
4) German
5) Argentine
6) Brazilian
7) French
8) Dutch
9) Portuguese
10) Belgian

Spain - Consistenly qualifying all their teams in the latter stages of the CL and proving season in, season out they have the teams to beat.

English - The top 3 Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U are all incredibly strong and only getting stronger. As with Spain more of the best potential stars are going there and the CL performances are getting stronger by the year.

Italian - Very strong tactically and defensively but apart from last years CL the Italian teams have taken many a recent bashings in Europe and it is no longer the place young talent flocks to in droves like it was all thru until the late 90's.

German - This season has seen a resurgence of German youth and strong willed, combattive teams. Never to be underestimated but, due to the lack of funds top players are rarely seen in this league.

Argentine - Produce a constant flow of excellent attacking midfielders that are sadly sold off to the highest bidders from Europe in a heartbeat. A strong, if skanky league but arentine teams do an excellent job in the Copa' and as with Spanish sides in Europe, Argentina nearly always has it's best teams in the latter stages of any Continental tournament.

Brazilian - Maybe the most raped of all leagues in world football. Constantly streaming their best strikers, midfielders and defenders all over the place and thus weakeneing their own league which can lead to erractic form and team chemistry.

French - Another country renound for shipping off its best players in a heartbeat. Fast, energetic football that can often trouble the 4 better Euro leagues above them.

Dutch - Along with Brazil the Dutch cannot keep hold of their best players, in fct it's a given that any player who will be anybody will be out of the Dutch league as soon as he ineviatbly impresses during a Euro game. Just as with Brazil and maybe France they have the best youth academies in the world. but just as with Brazil the teams the players evolve with have massive bouts of inconsistency due to huge chunks of talent being removed/sold at any given time.

Portuguese - The lifting of foreigner rules and E.U restrictions has hindered Portugal massively over the last half decade. In the past Portugal held onto most of its stars and flourished in Europe but now they are a farm of prodigious talent for Spainish and English clubs.

Belgian - exact same as the Dutch league.

Do your own top 10's and give reasons as to why. No stupid flames or nonsense please, just good 'discussion' :D

I guess the thread starter wanted to know what's your opinion on the best 10 leagues of the world, not your top 10 favorite ones. There's a difference.

Spanish: easy choice for top--Real is the best team in the world at the moment, plus they always have any number of players in contention in late-stage European competitions: Depor, Real Sociedad, Celta, Barca, Valencia have made serious impacts in Europe in recent years. What other league in the world would a second-stage champs leage team be struggling for relegation from their counrty's premier league? (True of both Celta and Sociedad)

Italian: I don't like they way they play (too defensive), but you can't argue with results. Juve and Milan are always excellent (CL final last year), and I think they go deeper than England when you consider the second tier consists of Inter, Roma, Lazio.

England: I'd watch a Premiership match before a Serie A one, but I don't think they're as deep as Italy, though at the moment I'd bet on England's top three over Italy's. But after that, the Italian second-tier are stronger than your Newcastles, Liverpools, etc.

Argentina: It's hard to compare the South American and European leagues, but if Boca Jrs can beat AC Milan (even on penalties), I think their league is due some serious respect.

Brazil: Choice of Brazil over Germany is based partly on aesthetics (I'd much rather see a Brazilian league game than a Bundesliga one), and partly on a hard-to-defend instinct that the top Brazilian sides would beat the top German sides, just.

Germany: The clear fourth in Europe at the moment--well behind ITaly/England but well ahead of Portugal/France/Holland.

Portugal: Yeah, I'm biased. But consider: Porto won the UEFA cup last year, was in the last 16 of the Champs league two years ago, quarterfinals year before that, and is still alive in the CL this year. Benfica is currently having a good run in the UEFA cup. And Boavista was semifinalist in last year's uefa cup and second-stage CL the year before that. Portugal is currently the sixth-ranked league in Europe according to UEFA, and I think they're better than France because...

France: has been in a marked decline in the past few years. They were a European force in the mid-90s but since then have been pretty dismal in Europe (this year is quite the exception). Plus, as between Portugal and France, it bears noting that in the CL, last year's Portuguese champion Porto beat last year's Championnat chamption Marseille, both home and away.

Netherlands: I love Ajax, and PSV is a damn good team, but after that they've got nothing. Feyenoord is ass this year, and the rest are truly just making up the numbers. Sorry, Hereenveen fans.

Greece: They've had some good performances in Europe the past few years, and they've got a bad rap because they sucked so hard in this year's CL. But they always play tough, spirited soccer, and the league's quality goes pretty deep--Panathinaikos, AEK, PAOK, Olympiakos, Aris--all pretty decent sides.

Lets just take chocolate's word for it. If he says that the Kuwaiti League is the best in the world than we should just all agree that its the best.

It would be nice to hear why you place the leagues in the order you have.

I would clearly rate the german league higher than the argentine and brazilian, since many of the best players from those leagues came over there, like DŽAlessandro, Demichelis, Franca, Juan, Marcelinho.....

And since the last years even players like Makaay, Amoroso or Micoud play there .
Even Tevez is probably going to play in germany next year.

Hey Vanilla, forget Kuwait, but how can you place MLS above the FRENCH, BRAZILIAN, and ARGENTINIAN leagues? Have you ever had a chance to watch these leagues, or are you a ********ing moron?

First of all, the middle teams in the Brazilian and Argentinian leagues this year could beat the best in MLS (River Plate, namely).

Second, if three French teams made it to the group stages of the Champions League (which you rate as #4), and two of those three have qualified for the next round, then how is the French League worse than MLS (which sucks horribly)?

And is the CL even a league? No, it's a competition, a tournament.

My leagues:

1. La Liga
2. EPL
3. Bundesliga
4. Serie A
5. Ligue 1
6. La Primera (Arg)
7. Brasil
8. Portugal
9. Holland
10. Mexico

Wow Bundesliga over Serie A? How so?

I find Serie A extremely boring, as the total goals of most game usually end up being less than three. The Serie A teams are all too defensive. The play is sloppy for the most part.

Except for games in which Inter plays the bottom ranked team, there are very few goals. And most of these goals come off headers and such.

Serie A is also in a decline, but everyone knows that.

On the other hand, Bundesliga seems to be improving, and the perfomances by Werder Bremen and Stuggart are evidence of this. There also seems to be a good balance of attacking and defending.
