I suppose you have to appreciate someone who sticks behind his team no matter who they're up against. But: 1) scoring 38 on a defense who's second-half scrubs are ranked won't happen, and 2) It takes alot more than 38 pts to beat us anyway. Michigan's going to be a real challenge -- the first we've faced in two years -- but they're not going to beat us. I'll not be surprised to see UM leading at the end of the 1st, 'SC up by single digits at the half, and not really pull away until mid-way through the fourth quarter. My only concern: the first string hasn't played four quarters of football since that fateful night in NoCal; does this mean they're going to be well-rested on 1/1, or will they be out of shape. With Pete Carroll, I'm guessing the former.

FWIW:
Rose Bowl - USC 52 Michigan 21
Orange Bowl - Fla St. 28 Miami of Florida 10
Fiesta Bowl - Kansas St. 17 Ohio St. 6
Sugar Bowl - LSU 33 Oklahoma 13

Final Rankings:

USC
LSU
Texas
Oklahoma
Tennesee

Zany BCS misadventures ensue [/B][/QUOTE]

What's the deal, SObearCAL? First, you say that Michigan will present a "true" challenge & then you say the final score will be 52-21.

I'm the FIRST one to say that USC will be a VERY tough challenge & opponent but there's NO way that Michigan is allowing 52 points to ANYONE, including USC!!!

I expect a hard-fought, exciting Rose Bowl, perhaps the best Rose Bowl game in MANY years. And, yes, I do see my beloved Michigan winning.

However, I'll let "my boys" do the talking......on the field!!!

I will say that I find it amusing, rather than insulting, that SOOOO many USC fans seem to dismiss Michigan as a "definite win" or "foregone conclusion."

If the team takes Michigan as lightly as the USC fans, it could be a blowout.........in Michigan's favor.

We'll all find out on New Year's Day!!!!

I expect a hard-fought, exciting Rose Bowl, perhaps the best Rose Bowl game in MANY years. And, yes, I do see my beloved Michigan winning. Easy there, slugger... You didn't get the rest of the post. Yep, a thirty-point margin of victory is what I predicted. I also think the final score won't reflect the competitive nature of the game. As per my previous post, the scoring won't get out of hand until the fourth, making for three 1/2 quarters of really exciting football. IOW: it could well be 17-14 USC at the half, then 21-17 Michigan early in the third. At that point, it's an exciting game. SC scores twice itself in the third, it's 31-21 -- still not out of hand. If, at that point, SC scores first in the fourth quarter, one begins to think it'll be tough for MIchigan to climb back in it. A second, and we're calling "game, set, match." Throw in one garbage-time run-up score, & there's your 52-21. No disrespect intended, but big games have a way of breaking down like that.

When Carroll has had the motivation, he's let his boys run up the score, & that's what I think is going to happen come the end of the game. You're not playing a favorite that's coming into this riding high, you're playing a favorite that just got punked out of it's shot at the BCS title, and will be playing with that chip firmly on its shoulder, looking to make a statement, & I've run out of clichés. Biggest reasons for my prediction: 1) No one's scoring more than three touchdowns on our first string, unless we've fallen asleep in NoCal. 2) Pete Carroll wants to put up a 50-spot. So he will.

Easiest one-fitty I'd make all year, but alas, I gave up betting on football games two weeks out with people I only know on soccer message boards for lent, and lent done showed up in the middle of advent this year. More's the pity. Baby did so need that new pair of shoes...

Although, looking at the early vegas line, I'd be down for some action on the over:

ROSE BOWL - Pasadena, CA

FAVORITE LINE TOTAL UNDERDOG

Southern Cal 6 1/2 57 1/2 Michigan

And how the BCS would love to see this!
There've been reports that if USC looks impressive (wins by at least 2 tds) and LSU wins, some coaches may go against the BCS and vote USC #1. I'd love to see it, not just because I'm a Pac-10 homer ;) but to see how much controversy it would create. Lots, I'm sure.

The coaches poll automatically votes the winner of the 1 versus 2 matchup (Sugar Bowl this year) #1. I don't believe there is any choice in the matter. (Note that the coaches poll is partly sponsored by ESPN and that ABC broadcasts all 4 of the big BcS games, so likely the automatic #1 vote is by contract.)

The AP (Media) poll on the other hand is free to vote as they choose, so should USC beat Michigan, we could very well see 2 different "champions" this year.

Miami OHIO has just beaten Louisville 49-28 at the GMAC BOWL with an excellent performance by Miami QB Ben Roethlisberger which probably will enter the NFL draft

as a miami grad i am disappointed but i cannot blame the kid...

best college QB i have seen all year...he is unreal and what makes him even more scary is that he has only being playing QB for 4 years <1 year in high school and 3 years in college> some GM is gonna look really good 10 years from now when he is still lighting up the NFL.

I fully understand how the coaches poll is required to vote.
But the day after the BCS Bowls were announced, USA Today had an article that included a few coaches who hinted that if USC dominates Michigan and Oklahoma loses, they would seriously consider voting against what the contract calls for them to do. They reasoned that since their #1 team (USC) won't be in the Sugar Bowl and they're required to vote the Sugar Bowl winner #1, them what's the point of them voting during the regular season.

If the pieces fall just right and the coaches vote USC #1, it'll be very interesting to see who the BCS gives that Sears glass football to. :D

I know I'm a bit late, but dammit, why does Florida State have to play Miami again, AND open next year against them. What a crappy matchup. Christ on a crutch, life sucks...

Because the Fiesta Bowl chose Ohio State instead of FSU or Miami. Why? OSU will bring more fans, didn't matter if they played last year or not. The Orange was basically tied to one of the two, can't remember which, and they had the last selection. Presto! A game that nobody gives a F about. Hell, I care more about the Christmas Eve and Night games than that one.

the thing is; nobody wants to go back there here in columbus, the travel agents and school are having a hell of a time selling packages and tickets. i bet there will be no more than 10,000 OSU fans that make the trip.

10,000 is still about 7,500 more than either FSU or Miami would bring.

Don't worry, Kansas State fans will buy up the rest. :) Time for the Darren Sproles 2004 Heisman Campaign to get rolling even more.

Is this a statement that the ACC is better than we thought, or is the Big 12 as awful as some like myself thought they were?
