Any ideas for good names for potential teams. I think the league has got to get away from this Americanized way of naming teams. I'd like to see the team names start to get more european. DC United is by far the best.

Cities such as Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Philadelphia, Seattle, Detroit, San Diego, New York

Have at it!

For Philly

AC Philadelphia 1776
Penn Wanderers
Penn Federal SC

Why does everything have to be "European"? We live in AMERICA!

Isn't their a basketball team that already goes by this name (kinda?)

My idea for the team in the City of Brotherly Love...

Hearts of Philadelpia :)

Firstly, this is an American league above all. It should use American-type nicknames. Second, before I knew anything about soccer, I thought it was "The DC United." Like "The United" was their nickname. In that way it's effective because it sounds like both an homage to Manchester United and patriotic at the same time. Team names, above all, should evoke their community and its history. Therefor: Oklahoma Outlaws, Tulsa Roughnecks, Philadelphia Atoms, Seattle Sounders, Detroit Wheels, San Diego Sockers, and if you want another team in New York or you want to rename the Metrostars (which you should), the New York Emperors.

I don't think that for the most part European names work for most clubs, however, I would like to see the new teams pay homage to the teams that are part of the city that they represent. For instance, in Milwaukee there is a very successful side called the Milwaukee Bavarian SC, that's a pretty nice American sounding name, that doesn't upset those that want Euro type names. I would be in favor of something honoring history with a European name, but lets try to fuse both American and Euro style names!!! I really don't have many good name ideas myself, however I would like to see someone come up with some good ones, I mean the crop of names here is pretty bad. One team I would like to have change their name is Rochester(if they get a team), something like Rochester City or Rochester 04(or something that honors the year they were put in MLS)

Is that why German clubs have numbers in their names? I'd been wondering. Rochester should either be the Lancers or the Royals.

Or the two dozen-plus other teams in England who were formed through the merger of other clubs, thus taking the name 'United'.

Too bad that's not how Manchester United got the name.

Usually European teams with numbers in their name are refering to the year in which the club was founded.

Can't resist this, even though I'm a Fire fan.
Motown United
Motown FC
(how much would it take to buy Berry Gordy off on the name?)
Detroit Arsenal (SE Michigan was the "arsenal of democracy during WWII).
Detroit Wolves (also short for Wolverines)
Real Detroit (translingual pun here, the team's slogan could be "we're the Real deal.")
Detroit Dynamo (lot of Ukranians in SE Mich.)
Probably too many auto-related names to list here, like Turbochargers, Hemis, V8s, etc.
Detroit/Windsor Ambassadors

Of course there's another group of names that are less likely:
Drive-bys, Crackheads, Dealers, PCVs, Recalls, Firestones, Detwats.

Wheels and Express were pretty good names.
But absolutely no feline animals, please!

This is a perfect nickname for an MLS team in Detriot. Honor's Detroits automotive heritage and sounds like a traditional "soccer nickname"

Although, if it's anything like Detroit's cars, they will break down on a regular basis after the third year.

Most American cars aren't worth the steel. It's almost a truism that American cars aren't built to last but to start breaking down after 75,000 miles, even with regular maintainance.
