I'm not picky, I'd just like Santa to bring a new player over the age of 23.

imagine if we had signed yaya toure when we gave him a trial
a true holding midfield player would be nice

Some of the players we have missed out on, or the way we missed out on them have been abit Dubious.
Yaya...One can say he was un-proven when he came for trial, but surely Wenger or another coach couldv'e seen the guys potential? He was a rock when in greece, and for barcelona last year.
C. Ronaldo...Supposedly a few grand and work permit issues prevented us from signing him. Fergie eventually got him an exceptional talent visa, yet we can only get those for alex song:rolleyes:
Even this summer, Xavi alonso. Estimated difference of between 2-4 million pounds was all that kept the scousers from selling him. Its crazy to think that if wenger Did bid for him, and i think its well known that he did, that the Club couldnt muster a few million more.

Why do people say this and then say we should have gotten Alonso? Or even Yaya?
Alonso is not a holding player and Yaya seems like an awfully lazy DM. If arsenal buys a real DM, it should buy a real dynamic guy who runs A LOT.
Running a lot plus passing adequately defined Flamini. If getting a Flamini replacement is so important than incredible stamina and fight have got to be the most important attributes -- and Yaya and Alonso have none of those.
Somebody said De Zeeuw has that, but I don't watch the Dutch league, so I don't know.

I dont think i said they were "similar" players or played the same position.
My MAIN point is that any of those players, would be 100x better next to cesc than any of the options we have now.
We have been linked with Demy De Zeeuw, But we would be running the risk of buying a player who would need time to adapt to the PL, and might not even adjust at all, of course thats speculation because he is not a proven player like the ones i mentioned, case in point.

Personally, I think the DM emphasis is over the top. Our problem will always be defense. It only becomes a very glaring problem when our midfield doesn't create A LOT of chances. That's their job and they haven't been doing it consistently.
Hence, maybe we would be better off getting a creative player who is physically strong. There were rumors that we have an exchange deal of Senderos for Gourcuff.
What do you think? Cesc + Gourcuff + Nasri + Walcott would really boss the midfield.
I would be really happy with that providing we got a centerback better than Silvestre. Samba anyone?
BTW: Fran Merida to me spells Rosicky without pace. What do you think?
I am beginning to think he could really be something...

Id jump at Gourcuff for sendy in a heart beat, and im sure AW would too. Hey he's french:p
Id take a midfield of those 4, but i still have my doughts over nasri and walcott. Walcott very seldomly gives sagna any sort of help, and nasri has shown signs of being able to do it,just not consistently. Maybe with Tomas back(i know thats an enormous IF) and either nasri or theo on the other flank.
Samba? Yes please!:D

Wow! Somebody actually agrees with me (at least to an extent :) )
About Walcott: I think he has improved defensively a lot. Last season he was really frustrating because he would lose the ball and then not track back. This season I have at times been impressed how he has won the ball back. I think he will continue to improve defensively. I think we all remember the game against Man U last season where the Boss took Eboue off and put Walcott on, and then Evra skinned Walcott and company which led to a goal. I don't see Walcott being skinned like that anymore. But, he is not Eboue, who for all his faults, made us defensively strong on the right hand side.

A sieve for Goals? Perhaps, cuz im not sold on our "wingers" ability to defend or hold the ball in tight situations, atleast not the ones that are healthy and available atm.
With rosicky back, with fabregas and gourcuff if the rumour materialized, with either nasri theo or even eboue could all hold the ball well and attack. After all, that is what we're about, isnt it?
Possetion football, holding the ball longer than the opponent, making them chase the ball, and winning through creating more scoring chances than our opponents? Even flamini who everyone raves about was more of an attack minded CM last year, but he ran non-stop everywhere on the pitch.

Arseblog's story this morning (http://www.oleole.com/blogs/arseblog)
There was a story yesterday about Cesc's agent, the delectable Darren Dein, was in Milan to meet with representatives of Silvio Berlusconi. The reports came from Spain and are probably a big load of bollocks. However, I think it's something we're going to have to get used to in the months ahead. Perhaps, if there was even a meeting, it was for something else entirely.

Can anyone give a scouting report on Thiago Silva from Fluminese? (I'm looking at you Terp). Supposedly a Brazilian central defender, 24, who's available on a free in January.
I know I've seen him play, but while I remember he looked a good player, I can't remember enough about his game to know whether he'd do well with Arsenal. He's 6'0, so I'm guessing he's not the aerial presence we need...
