I have been without a cassette deck for years and am finally doing a clean sweep of various tapes I received from various people in the early 1990s (and some that I recorded in the mid-1980s). I am willing to mail these to folks who would be up for converting to digital files and sharing the materials with people on one of the music boards (e.g., Zomb or Dime). Because I do not have a cassette deck, I can’t speak to the quality of the tapes, although I remember all of these sounding good (but memory is an imperfect thing). I am listing what is written on the cassette and/or the jacket. I am sure many of the materials are floating around, but perhaps the quality on these tapes is better since I often got them from people who had some connection with the bands, but I will let you be the judge of that if you want any of them. I would prefer not to mail single cassettes and would rather mail in bulk (i.e., if someone wants them all, that would be great or if one person will take 10, someone else will take 6 or 7, etc., that would also work for me). Just send me a PM with your wishlist, name, and address and I will write back confirming what I will send. Also, I prefer to mail to people in the USA to save shipping costs. Here’s what I have:

Afghan Whigs – Live on KCRW (don’t know when this would have been recorded. Tape also features 3 songs from Tim Ferguson – an LA alt.country singer who sounded a lot like Chris Isaacs and probably backed by the Wallflowers on these tracks)

Black Crowes – Two Rough Mixes + Studio sessions at Southern Trax in Atlanta (1992). Don’t know what is on here and I assume that this stuff is already floating around, but…
Black Crowes – KROQ acoustic Christmas 11 December 1994 (can’t remember if I taped this from the radio or if I got it from someone at Def American).

Black Flag – Live at Radio Tokyo (1984). Recorded for a syndicated college radio show.

Boilermaker – San Diego indie rock band.

Boys Life – live (perhaps on KXLU). Kansas City, post-hard core/emo band.

Buffalo Tom- demos and live rehersals for the album, Soda Jerk

Bugskull – Garganelodies cassette released on Eldest Son in 1992
Bugskull – Magic Tremelo
Bugskull – “assorted” (11 songs)

Elvis Costello – Royal Festival Hall 3 December 1984 (2 cassettes)

Drive Like Jehu – Live on KXLU (1992? 1993? 1994?)
Drive Like Jehu – This might be demos for Yank Crime, might be a different mix, or might just be the album itself (jacket has different titles than appear on the official release). Cassette also features some Quicksand tracks (perhaps demos for the first album) and a Sensefield EP.

The Ex with Tom Cora – Live at the Knitting Factory in New York (1992 or 1993)

The Fall – Rough Mixes of 7 songs from Levitate

Hole - Argentina Demos, Goodier from 27 March 1992? 1993?, and Peel Session from 25 March 1992? 1993?
Hole – demos (for the first Geffen album but don’t know if these are different than the Argentina Demos). Cassette also has Courtney Love live on KROQ’s Loveline from 92 or 93.
Hole – 4 songs (Miss World, She Walks on Me, Baby, Pee Girl). I don’t know if these are different mixes or the same tracks that appear on albums/b-sides/etc.

John Lee Hooker – Live September 1978 (don’t know where this was recorded but it might have been for a syndicated college radio show).

Thee Hypnotics – Demos 17 November 1992 (sent by their publishing company, Momentum Music LTD when they were shopping for a US label)

Inquisition – Bullet Proof cassette (2 songs each side from a great mid-90s punk band featuring members who formed Strike Anywhere).

Jawbreaker - Side 1 is live at Gilman Street 11 August 1980 and side 2 is demo stuff form 2 March and 8 April 1989

Mark Lanegan – See Smashing Pumpkins demos below
Mark Lanegan – II (I don’t know if these are different mixes or demo versions of tracks for his second solo album on Sub Pop or if these are the same tracks as they appear on that album).

Bob Marley and the Wailers – live show that aired on KCRW. Features some studio tracks that have since been released

Midway Still – New Tracks (probably recorded around 1993 when the band was trying to find a US label. This cassette was sent out by the band’s lawyer)
Midway Still – 23 August 1994 (don’t know if these are the same tracks featured on the cassette above, but this was sent by their UK publishing company)

Nirvana – Palace 25 October 1991 (for some reason I remember this tape as sounding like it was either recorded from the stage or from back stage but I could be wrong)
Nirvana (I have no idea what’s on this tape; it could just be In Utero or it could be a live show. The 2nd side has the band Gumball and could be a live show or one of their studio albums)
Nirvana on Westwood One (probably sent from the producers of the show to the person who copied it for me rather than being recorded off the radio)
Nirvana – Live in SF (don’t have a date but probably 92 or 93)
Nirvana – B-sides (Moist Vagina, Marigold, Versus Chorus Verse [THIS IS WHAT IS WRITTEN ON THE JACKET SO IT MIGHT BE A TYPO OR IT MIGHT BE WHAT THE SONG WAS CALLED AT ONE POINT], Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol). I don’t know if these are the same version as what was released by the band or different mixes.
Nirvana – Live in Seattle (don’t have a date but probably 92 or 93)

Polvo – demos (don’t know for what but cassette also contains Smashing Pumpkins demos—see below)

Quicksand (see Drive Like Jehu above)

Reggae Rarities – taped from a KCRW broadcast (Brigadier Jerry, Black Uhuru, Don Carlos, Mediations, Leroy Sibbles live in studio, from soudchecks, etc.) Probably recorded around 1983 or 1984.

REM – November 92 Athens, GA (2nd generation and I think this was a Westwood One radio broadcast but maybe not).

Replacements – Live at Club Lingerie, Hollywood (1984)

Seaweed - 5 songs. These are demos recorded with Mark Hudson prior to the release of their album on Hollywood Records. DAT>cassette.

Sink – Veg-tables (1991). Don’t know if this came out in the UK but I got it from someone in the US who was friends with the band. If you don’t know them, they sound a bit like Midway Still, Leatherface, and Snuff.

Smashing Pumpkins - demos (don’t know for which album but it would be for the first or 2nd album). Cassette also contains Polvo demos and Mark Lanegan tracks (don’t know if the Lanegan tracks are demos for one of his albums or just a copy of the 2nd album)

Soul Asylum – Live in SF 1988 (jacket lists November 1988 on Side A and 3 YFF on Side B)

Soul Asylum- June 91 Demos. I have seen these demos floating around but the files seem to feature less songs than what I have on this cassette. There are 7 songs on this cassette, which was sent to record labels after the band was dropped by A&M. This cassette was sent by their publishing company.

Brix Smith – 4 songs (Sorry, Backwards, Hooves for Hands, Orangina)
Brix Smith – Star (I think this is a single song)
Brix Smith – Treekster (I think this is a single song)
Brix Smith - #2 (Shame, Soup, Head Girl) 3 songs on this one.

Son Volt on KCRW (1994 or 1995)

Sonic Youth – Cow Palace 6 April 1991

Squid – Soft Intelligence demo

Teenage Fanclub - Goodier Sessions #1 (tape also has St. Johnny tracks on side 2. I don’t know if these are demos, a copy of an album, tracks from 7” singles, etc. since the sleeve just says St. Johnny)
Teenage Fanclub – Live at the Empire, Cleveland (broadcast on WMMS and probably dubbed by someone at the radio station for the record label rather than recorded off the air).

Train Meets Truck – 1994 album that I do not think was ever released. Fans of Uncle Tupelo will dig this Columbus, OH band.
Train Meets Truck – 4 song demo (2 tracks each side)

The Wallflowers (see Afghan Whigs above)

Wilco - live at the Troubador (recorded from an FM radio station)

Wreck - 1 April 1992 (I think this is a demo session given the notes written on the jacket). This is not a live show.

Can't help on that front but that's why I used "OT" in the subject line.

There is a general music forum in the NSR category, near the bottom of the main forum list.

Thanks for the tip. I posted here since this is a regular spot for me. I figured that maybe some folks on this board are into alternative music and might want the cassettes and wanted to offer them here before going elsewhere. Start with some folks that I have some kind of cyber relationship with, and if there's no interest, cool. If there is interest, great. Take care.

I'd definitely expect some interest over on the music forum. I, however, also do not have a functioning tape deck and could nothing more than ponder the glory within (btw - I know one of the mods over on the Music forum still pulls out a cassette now and then).

Thanks. I didn't actually know that forum existed until Kryptonite said something. Either way, the tapes have been sent to people responding via another site.
