Very proud. Any chance to punch Ian Wright has to be taken.
No, it does not *have* to be taken. Especially when it's a cheap shot.

For me Wright is that kind of player who you just can't hate, no matter how well he plays for your rivals. Others are Henry and Ronaldinho. Actually, there's no Arsenal player I have indifferent opinions of. I either like 'em or hate 'em. For instance, I couldn't hate Bergkamp or Pires, but LEHMAN!!!
Opposites include Denis Wise, Robbie Savage, Sylvain Wiltord, Ray Parlour, Pascal Cygan, Steve McMannaman and the all-time champ of winning my hatered: Martin Keown.
If I walked past Keown on the street, even if he had joined United, I'd probably have taken a swing at *it* myself :)

That just might be a serious mistake unless you're a lot bigger than I'm imagining you ;)

Bumping this thread in the wake of the "How did you become a xxx fan?" threads going in some of the other forums.
Although it should be noted that this thread was not only around first, but lets us get to know one another both as people and as fans. ;)

Never noticed this thread.
I'm 36 and have been a United fan since back in 2002. I was never a soccer fan (except for the excellent University of Vermont team of 1990) and never played. I typically would watch the World Cup and then forget about the sport for a few years. For some reason, in 2002 as the World Cup approached, I began to become obsessed. It made sense to follow a big club because why follow a team that may get relegated. United was the most appealing and I figured Arsenal was too French and Liverpool was too Liverpool. Chelsea wasn't even on the radar. I guess that makes me a glory hunter. (However, being a life-long Red Sox fan should give me a special dispensation.) My conversion was complete when I moved back to New York at the end of 2002 and stumbled upon (and later out of) Nevada Smiths.
Although a recent convert to the beautiful game, I have worked diligently to become knowledgeable. Dislike of Arsenal has evolved naturally. You may call me Vermont Red.

Well, I'm 17, turning 18 this year.
I've been supporting United since I was about 10 years old, I started following them because Dwight Yorke was going there, and I wanted to follow the progress of a national hero. Before United, I never watched football..at all. Infact I hated it, I thought it was boring. Maybe because all my family watched was Serie A. :p I would be the one trying to drag my cousin from watching it, to come outside and play. After United came into my life, the roles reversed, and it was my cousin dragging me out to play.
I was attracted to the passion and excitement of English football, especially our football. I was attracted to the never say die, you score 3 we score 4 mentality. Not to mention they looked good doing it in their red and white kits with the collars up. After that, I never really looked back, now I can't live without football.

I was born in Germany, adopted and brought to the States when I was quite young. I have followed Werder Bremen since I was very young.
I grew up in San Jose, CA. and I have played football my whole life. I began following United in the mid 90's with them becoming more and more important to me as the years passed.
The advent of Satellite TV and the internet have opened up a whole new world when it comes to following my teams. Trying to follow Werder back in the 60's & 70's was quite a chore.
Anyway, am glad to frequent this forum ... it's always nice to talk with others that have the same passion for the sport and United.

Well I guess I'll have a go at this thread then.
I'm 18 and a freshman at Mississippi State University. Currently majoring in Chemical Engineering but am always flip flopping about whether to switch to Civil or not. I think I may next semester as of right now, but didn't think that way last week.. so you never know.
Anyways, football...
I have played since I was a wee youngin around 5 years old for the YMCA. Been playing ever since for High School and various select and recreational teams around my area (which are not very good selection might I add or I might be at a small college playing right now instead of going for an education). Anyways, I had this mentor of mine who went to school with my older brother (circa 30-40 years, not sure). Sometime before WC 2002 he got me really into watching football. Specifically Manchester United. What hooked me was him giving me a jersey from sometime in the 90's (not sure which, it has a grey and white collar and is a Sharp). It was over from then.
Therefore I got really into USA during the WC and thusly into Manchester United. I have gone through different phases of fanitude and towards the end of last season as we were losing suprisingly I got hooked for good I believe this time. No turning back now.

Update:
I'm still Alex.
I'm 18.
Through an extremely complex series of events, I was rejected at every single place I applied in the US, yet still managed to land here at King's College London.
However, i am currently living out of a hotel room and a rental car with my dad until i can find a more permanent place to live.
Due to all this crazienss, i havent had much time for football of any kind - watching or playing. I think I've seen United in action maybe twice or thrice this whole year, including preseason. Hopefully, once i get settled, i'll be seeing alot more of them.
that's my (updated) story and I'm stickin to it.
until i have to update it again.
... and here I am again.
Incredibly enough, i'm STILL Alex.
I'm 19.
Through another complex series of events, i discovered that college at King's is ****************. So, i applied for a transfer to a whole crapload of places, and now I am a happy student at the George Washington University in Washington DC.
At least for the next two weeks or so, i am actually living at the GW mount vernon campus, which is about 15 minutes north of the foggy bottom/main campus, on the other side of georgetown. Hopefully that's gonna change once they start accepting housing switch applications.
Nonetheless, now that I am settled i will most certainly be watching most, if not all, of my united matches at the Lucky Bar.
I'll probabaly be there for this weekend's US-Mexico game, too.
Hot damn I love DC.

I'm 30 and started palying footie when I was 5....... I played for various travel and select teams until I reached high school where I discovered beer and women was more fun than waking up at 6am to run...Well my brother continued playing and went to play at a D3 school in New England.... I always made the drive up from NY with my parents to see him play.... I guess I'm trying to say I've always loved the sport....
United first appeared in my life when i was 12 and I had an English counselor at camp who used to wear this funny Red shirt with Sharp written across the front....He xplained to me it was a Manchester United Jersey and they were THE team in England....
2 summers ago I heard that there was a series of matches throughout the country and that United was playing.... I tuned in and saw some guy named Ruud score off an incredible volley...... I was hooked....
I haven;t missed a match since then have turned my brother into a United fan to the dismay of his pregnant wife :D .... And am in the process of teaching my girlfriend about United.....
