I'm John from DC, 27. Really enjoy this board, read much more than I post. Seems to be a lot of us DC metro area guys here :). I catch some matches at the Lucky Bar (usually the bigger ones), but i'll be watching this weekend from the comforts of my couch.

My name is not Ted but I'm 34 from Ireland now living in Norwalk, CT.

My day was a big United fan so naturally when I was a kid so was I. The first United game I can still remember watching on TV was the 76 Cup Final when we lost to Southampton. But I'm sure I watched before that. I had to suffer through the Liverpool glory years especially as my older brother was a 'pool fan.

I moved to the US in 1992 on a temporary assignment and of course we won the league for the first time in my lifetime and I missed all the action. That was before the days of FSW and PPV so the only way I could get news back then was small snippets in the NY Times and from phone calls to my dad. He would tape highlights and send them over to me(I bought a PAL compatible VCR).

Fearing a return to live in Ireland would revert United back to their losing ways, I've decided to make my move permanent!

That would be great. Maybe we can start a thread on it as we get closer to Spring...

LOL! Thats funny, but I have a problem with that sort of thing... being a West Indies fan (cricket) I have to be very superstitious, cuz recently we have not been good, if im watching a game and I go to pee and we take a wicket while I am away, its usually at least 30mins or 3 wickets before I leave the bathroom.... lol unfortunately no amount of bathroom trips or ear scratching will get the windies to the level of ManU... [sigh]

My name's Mike and I"m 22. Just graduated from Kent State University with a degree in history. I'm in the National Guard and I'm getting deployed in a couple months...some place called Croughton England.
I've been playing soccer in some form or other since I was 5, when I played indoor at Fluminense's club (which explains why I'm also a Flu fan). I haven't played as much recently because of school and other issues (getting married next week), but I usually play one outdoor and one indoor league each year. I've been following Manchester for about 8 years...i've got a 2nd cousin who lives in England and is a huge fan; he played a game for me and I was hooked. Seen them a few times over the years, but have had to be content to catch games when I could and follow them over the internet (once I got access to it).

Premium Ferris (Mike),

congratulations on your upcoming wedding. it's funny, before i got married my wife said she knew i followed the game (United in particular) but that she only knew how much so AFTER our wedding...sort of like a hidden layer. she's been really cool about. in fact she's watching more matches with me (usually early a.m. here in SoCal). and is trying to better understand the game to appreciate it more. of course she keeps telling me i have to retire some of my old United shirts. guess you can't win them all.

hope all goes well on your wedding day.

All;

My name is Robert. I'm 33 and live in north jersey with my wife and (soon to be) two kids and am a frequent reader of this board.

I grew up playing the game through high school. I was going to play in college, but accidentally became distracted by my fraternity...and a few members of sororities. I have toyed with joining one of the adult leagues in my area. Time (and rusty skills) are the major concerns, but each year it's in my new year's resolutions.

I also came late to United, but have tried to make up for that with my ardor. I also have to confess that Beckham was the early catalyst for my interest. I just had never seen anyone make a ball move like that...still haven't. My interest has grown exponentially from that point, though.

Currently, I watch on YES network and FSWespanol (they don't offer the enlish version on my cable system) I think I've convinced my wife we need a dish, though. And I went to the UTD/ JUVE match at Giants Stadium, which was fantastic.

My main goal at this point is to get to OT sometime soon. Although the last time I went to a football match in Europe I ran into a whole load of teargas...that was Olimpico, though (Lazio)

I'm 25 and live near Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas and am a HUGE Burn supporter in addition to cheering on the Red Devils.
I sometimes get up at 6 a.m. on Saturdays if United is playing live on Fox Sports World.
I collect Man U jersies (esp. ones with names, numbers and patches), I would like to see them in person at Old Trafford some day.

I was on vacation, so I missed this thread when it came out.

I'm Charlie, 36, emergency physician in Denver. I used to do the overnight shift every Tuesday. In 1998, I was channel surfing after I woke up on Wednesday and I saw that ESPN2 had Manchester United hosting Brondby. I had always enjoyed watching the World Cup, and I knew that United were the richest club in the world, often compared to the Yankees or the Cowboys in American sports. Well, I don't care too much for either of these teams. Furthermore, a friend I had visited a few years earlier in London lived right down the street from Highbury. And since I had been a fan of Holland since the '70's, I liked Dennis Bergkamp. So, I was expecting to hate United. They trounced Bronbdy and they played some of the best soccer I had ever seen. Clearly, I could not hate this team. I kept watching the CL every week - including that brilliant 3-3 draw in Barcelona, still one of the most entertaining games I have ever seen - and found myself rooting for them. Before I knew it, I was a huge United fan. I couldn't wait for their next game. The games with Inter, Juve, and Bayern will forever be etched in my memory. I loved United's never-say-die attitude, and had found the European club that I would support for the rest of my life. Now I watch them whenever they are on FSW or ESPN. I wish that there was a bar that would show all the games, but I haven't found one yet.

You know what makes this particular forum an awesome forum? Is that we tend to have nice people post here. You go over to the USMNT forums and it seems like one out of every ten posters is just an a$$hole. Sure, every once in a while someone posts an incorrect stat or says a player is from Russia when he's from South Africa (RSA, RUS - whatever!) but it's still a fun forum and no one "attacks" here. This is a great forum - thanks, John, for starting this thread :)

I'm Mike,

I'm 40 and from Frisco, TX, soon to be home of the Burn. I will admit, I'm a late arrival to soccer & Man Utd. I didn't start following soccer till my daughter started playing. Also since she began playing, I have begun to play indoor. This all really coincided with the 98 World Cup & FSW being available.

I began following United after watching several matches & they would never quit. I have joy when they win & depression when they don't. I get up early & watch or arrange my work so I can for Champ's League.

I went to the tour matches in LA, NY, & Phi. I'm now trying to get my daughter & I to OT. She is also a big fan.

Glory Glory Man Utd!

Mike

Hello all! My name is House (that's what everyone calls me!) I live in Louisville, KY and I am a college soccer coach who due to an upcoming wedding (june) am in between jobs and coaching high school soccer and lacrosse for a year. I became a United fan back in '95 when I saw an EPL show on cable and this French guy for this red team astounded me, I was hooked! I played in college at the DI level, mostly right back and right mid. I have played in various leagues and have played up top and in center mid as well. I am not a star but work real hard! I also am a competitive cyclist and triathlete. I often get up at 7:30 am to watch Man United and my fiancee is very understanding (and really good at falling back asleep after asking me "what's wrong" on those mornings!). She is from Chicago and is all for going to see United next summer if they play in Chi-town and it isn't during our honeymoon in Europe!
