Now this really makes me feel old ... let's just say I graduated from high school in '72. When I was a freshman, I was part of the first year of the soccer program for my district. I played varsity as a freshman and our kits were actually PE shorts with pointy ball jerseys. We were definately an oddity in those days.
Don't think of yourself as old, think of yourself as a pioneer. ;)
But seriously, that was way back before youth and high school soccer had any mainstream success in America. Today, no one bats an eye when I say I play soccer (though they occasionally do when I say I watch it).

If only you knew about the crap we put up with from mainstream sports and their players. We were always the "Redheaded Stepchildren" of sports back then. But as you well know, when this sport get's its hooks in you, you don't give a damn about anyone else and what they think.

Glad this thing bot bumped, I never saw it before...
My name is Ray, I'm 28 and live in Stamford, CT. I currently work for a major credit card company out in Westchester, and no I'm not the guy who calls u at dinner, I'm more on the systems side. I'm the capt of the corporate team here and after years of almost making it, we won the championship last year. I'm very passionate about soccer in general, so much, that even the guys on my team find it weird. Hell I don't care, I love the sport!
I was the guy going to bed as soon as I got home from work in June of 2002, waking up 5 mins before the first game at 1:30am or whatever time it was, and that's pretty much how I started my day every day in June. There were a few exceptions to that rule, but more often than not, there I was. I came into work early in order to get out by 2:15 to get over to the pubs to watch the Euro 2004 & Champions League matches. It might be a disease, but I figure there are worse ones to get! ;)
Anyway, I watch my Man United matches over in Stamford, usually at Tigin's. They are open, even for the 7:30 games, so u gotta love that. Plus, come noon, you can switch over from Bloody Mary's to Guinness and get a sweet sheperd's pie on the side! CT people, come on down!!!

I've always wanted to post here but somehow never did....
Hi everyone
My name is Bruno, I am a senior in college, studying Economics and Languages. I am originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil but have been living in Georgia,USA for several years. I began to follow Manchester United in the early 90's as a youngster living in Switzerland. Everyone else was all ga-ga about AC Milan and Spanish sides...but the exploits and charisma of Eric Cantona are what caught my attention. Over the years, my love of Man Utd has grown steadily and I feel very fortunate to have witnessed such great talent and performances. While I'll admit to a mild fondness for Ajax and Barcelona + Real Betis over in Spain, and my "home" team of Sao Paulo--the Red Devils are first and foremost in my heart.
My most cherished dream is that upon my death, I will be reincarnated as the ubertalented grandson of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo's sister and take the field against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
I spend my summer's working in DC, and got to watch the first game of the season at Summers in Arlington before heading back to Atlanta for the school year.
My outside interests include the national team, the Dutch, reading and writing, eating, pets, and excessive television viewing.
FYI: Johno and I drafted and managed our team to second place in the 2005 BigSoccer All-World Draft and Cup. (We drafted Wayne Rooney with our first pick!)

I'm Brian and I'm 28. I live in Moscow, Idaho with my wife and daughter (and son on the way). I'm in my 2nd week of law school at University of Idaho after a long break from school.
I'm a long time lurker on these boards. I read frequently, but rarely post. Maybe it's because my United knowledge is vastly inferior to everyone else's. :o I played soccer as a young kid in the Bay Area, but then moved to ID were it wasn't very popular. I always watched the World Cup, but other than that, I didn't see much soccer.
My fascination with Untied started in around 2000-2001 when I finally got cable and saw more of the CL on ESPN. My grandafter is Dutch so I started watching Ruud every chance I got, and the rest is history. It wasn't until much later that I became aware of United's history and successes, but I've enjoyed learning by little.
My favorite piece of United memoribilia... A piece of scrap paper scrounged up from the NikeTown store in NYC that has several autographs on it from the players we bumped in to at the store. They we even kind enough to take some pictures with us.
I appreciate all of the insight I get from reading everyone's posts. I'll make an effort to post more often. It's nice to get to know everyone.

Careful, you could get in quite a bit of trouble for that. You know, the type of trouble where they put you on a list and make you go around your neighbourhood door to door alerting everybody.
But nobody ********s with the Jesu... eerrrr... Hawki!! ;)

I'm Billy, 19 from Dublin. Been a Man United fan since literally as long as I can remember (I remember Lee Martin (Irwin's predecessor, iirc) scoring the winner of the 89/90 FA Cup Final for us, but wasn't even 4 years old at the time. Let's not forget that in that season, Fergie was on the brink of the sack and United were flirting with relegation... no joke, newbies!
I'm going into DBS to do a film studies course, just got my acceptance letter the other day (we start in about 2 weeks, I think) which is fookin' sweet, since it's one of the most interesting courses going and runs directly in line with what I would like to be doing in the future (writing for film, TV or theatre). My favourite United players of the last 15 years would be Irwin, Cantona, Ole, Chocco, Sparky, and of course my all-time favourite player... Roy Keane. Rooney & Fletch are doing good jobs of getting there, too.
**BTW, just thought I should add that I saw a video of former ManU rightback Paul Parker the other day. He was never a very big guy, and in the video he got knocked on his arse by some typical European ban era midtable lump of a player. How does Parker get up? He does 2 rolls afte hitting the deck, then stands on his head, before flipping to his feet.
Other teams I am a fan of (to varying extents, none really anywhere near United) are Shamrock Rovers (what the hell is happening!?), Tranmere Rovers (from the Aldridge days), Boston United (Soccer AM fans will know why :D) and if I absolutely HAD to pick an SPL team, I would probably go with Hibs. That's right... not the OTHER green team. Funny that I've never really been a fan of any continental teams - it just really varies on how entertaining any team are to watch at the time. And yes, I've got to admit I like Blackburn this team... the Raiders (ugh) have NOTHING on these guys! It's probably because I've always been a fan of those 'love-to-hate' players liek Savage, Bellamy, Dickov, the Todd/Nelsen combination (not Lucas Neill though, he's just too dirty). Add in the physical appearance of Brad Friedel and you have this years 'Goonies'. And I've gotta say, they're the goonies since the Crazy Gang down in London got relegated twice, sold out and disbanded (fair play to the AFC Wimbledon effort, though).
And today I am in a shining mood. Why? Because I - for one night only - 'converted' a mate of a mate who is a lesbian last night... and she's a lapdancer!! I swear to God, no word of a lie. I've practically been doing backflips up and down the stairs all day.

No witnesses, no problems, no worries. All is right with the world. ;)
Just as a post script ... I knew there was a reason I liked you ... Boy, you have a hell of a future ahead of you ... :D

RE-SPECT! My rep does you no good, billy, but I had to dap you for that.
Me, well. Everyone calls me Jules, but at school they call me Julio, which is my birth name. I live in Los Angeles, where everyone is plastic and looks like this  with their Orange County dress, or hi-flying rapper fatigues. Not everyone here has an entourage, but it sure as hell would look like it. I'm currently a Junior at CalStateUnivNorthridge, majoring in English Literature. And I work in a friggin' Library. When I graduated from high school, I made a brief attempt at a career as a musician, but my band-mates abandoned me when the music started shifting from the simple 4/4 timing we had played to death. I took my guitar and holed myself up in a room for three weeks, where I wrote some of the most displaced music I have ever heard in my life. I'm not your typical Angelino (but wtf is a typical Angelino). My major inspirations in life have been John Lennon, John Milton, and Anne Rice. My current (living) favorite band is called Nada Surf, which you guys should all check out ;) nadasurf.com or barsuk.com). I've been following United since around 92. Unfortunately when I got here, we were already making an ascent into the team we became, so I don't know the barren years. My support became full on around 96, when I would tout my club at school amidst Boca Juniors chants by all the Central American kids, and I was ostracized for it. But a deep passion was born. I used to think Brian McClair was untouchable. He and Giggsy were the reason United were enjoyable for me initially. In fact, my knowledge was so daft then, I was not too happy when Keane was first bought. As everyone else, I was astounded by that Cantona fella, and who could forget the Beckham-Keane-Scholes-Giggs midfield. I never really warmed up to Cole or Ince, but they were imperative to our success. Never liked P Neville (does anyone remember when he was starting and Gary wasn't). Yorke was great, but Van Nistelrooy. I had never seen anyone like him (well Hugo Sanchez, but I never really liked him either). And now Rooney and Ronaldo. Fletch and Smithy.
Uh yeah, this is me.
(rep me, please, i live in los angeles, it ain't as great as it looks on tv)

My name is Daniel, I'm 20, I was born in Romania, lived there for the first five years of my life, then moved to Austria, lived there for seven years and then finally moved to New York. I go to Hunter College and am majoring in film and minoring in art history, however I'm not feeling either 100% so I'm still somewhat undecided, seeing as to how football is my one and only full passion. I became a Manchester fan when I was about twelve in Austria, I got to see some Premiership games on tv and when I saw Cantona, I was hooked, I've supported the team ever since.
