***PLEASE ABSTAIN IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE HOSTILE - THIS IS A SERIOUS THREAD***
Hey guys. I may be visiting Argentina this winter - I would stay for only a few days, and only in Buenos Aires.
I would be very thankful if anyone here could give tips on:
- must-visit places, not necessarily related to soccer
- good neighborhoods for a hotel (in terms of accessibility to shopping areas and nightclubs, bars, etc)
- best hangout areas - nightclubs, lounges, bars... let's party!
- your favorite restaurants
- where to shop (if I do go my Argentine friend will probably ask me for some wooden plates for asado)
Thanks in advance! :)

Must visit places - mmmm La Bombonera so you can learn about true fans. lol lol
I'm just messing with you. I couldn't resist.
I wasn't sure when you were going to go. Whether our winter, their summer or their winter and our summer?

I've been to Maracana and Morumbi, so perhaps a stop by La Bombonera (and Monumental de Nunez) wouldn't be such terrible ideas. Do CABJ and CARP have tours for tourists?

The US winter (South American summer). I'd be going to Argentina from Brazil - I prefer not to visit Brazil when it's "cold" down there, and I'm sure you can figure out why. ;)

I'm going to do some research for you. About the tours I'm sure that they do. I had the name of a company that was exclusively into arranging all these things.
Just let me look for their info and Ill get back to you. How many weeks before you leave?

About 20 days before I arrive in Argentina.
Thanks a lot, I do appreciate it.
Remember, Cosmos: I will stay in Buenos Aires only.

No, Christmas will be spent in Brazil. I will be there for only a few days so I need to devise a very proper schedule, with the evenings left alone for the nightlife. ;)
This is going to be an "adventure" - going alone, exploring, etc. I can and probably will research online, but asking natives is always helpful.

I once heard about the "barrabrava tour" (do some googling, I'm sure sthg will come up) where you get to spend a day with the Boca Juniors barras. Although I can't remember how much they charged, it wasn't cheap as it was targeted to europeans and americans.
I am all against these things but it's been on the news so there's no moral issue here. Hope it helps.

Both clubs do have stadium tours. You can find info about them on the teams' official websites. I don't know about Boca's, but for River's tour visit the following link:

Yes, Locoxriver, I did find that information for the tours, but I have not yet had the same luck looking up Boca's information. Thanks, though.

I've been planning on going to Buenos Aires myself. Probrably won't go for a year or two (maybe copa america.) But in general when are good times to go... (i.e. for example if I told people to go to Montreal, I'd assume I'd recommend during the Int'l Montreal Jazz Festival.) If I was recommending DC, I'd recommend during the Cherry Blossom - 4th of July month...
Any recommendations?

Well i wouldn't know what's exactly the best time to go to Buenos Aires, now i can tell you what's the worst time to go in July during the school winter vacations... Seriously, it's hell Buenos Aires gets too overcrowded. Then in 2011 it could be the exception because of the Copa América, however then there will be other cities to go besides Buenos Aires.

You should definitely try our picket season :D. It's delightfully unpredictable.

Hey all. My visit has been confirmed, and my travel package is complete. The tour I have may or may not include a visit to Nunez or to La Bombonera, but I have found information for Nunez tours and now need to get info on how to reach La Bombonera.
Finally, my very good Argentine friend (some of you may recall I dragged his ass out to watch Argentina vs. USA at Giants Stadium) does not know I'm going. He only knows I'm going to Brazil. What should I get him? (he asked for 6 wooden plates, typical for eating asado, but he thinks I'm getting those in Brazil, as such wooden plates and trays are also easily available in Brazil).
I can't wait to see his face when I show him pictures of myself in Buenos Aires. :D

Hey, good luck in Buenos Aires. It will be very hot now in the city, but it's always fun to visit.
You should have no problem getting info about La Bombonera. Check with the hotel or any travel agent or turist guide. They also have a museum there. Have fun!

ASF! how are you? long time no see. Good luck w/ Boca, if I'm correct they still have a shot at winning the Apertura.
I have a tour which'll take me to a bunch of cool places. One of them I think will be the cemetery where Eva Peron's burial ground is at. I'm sure the Obelisco and 9 de Julio, and Teatro Colon (which I think is closed for repairs) will be part of it too.
Any recommendations in terms of where to visit and where to go eat?
Also, what should I get my Argentine friend? Are those wooden plates easy to get anywhere?

As far as a place to eat this place I went to last year was INCREDIBLE, if you are looking for a good steak.
It's called Las Lilas and it's located in Puerto Madero. You have to go.

Make sure you take the Tren de la Costa to Tigre, and then take a ride up the Delta of the Parana River.
Hey, as far as restaurants, there are tons of them, and most of them are good, so you can't go wrong if you walk into any place that looks cool.
Following is one of my favorites restaurants, right in the microcentro (downtown). You can take the subway from anywhere in downtown, if somebody can guide you, (I forget the station), or by cab it should be just a few minutes if you're anywhere near the centro.
It's an old fashioned restaurant like they don't have anymore, with old fashioned career waiters who know how to serve, and an amazing menu with lots of great choices. Great desserts too.
