Hey for anyone following the 2nd Bundesliga, has Mainz ever been in the 1st Bundesliga? And what does FSV Mainz 05 stand for? I'm guessing "Fussball Sport something Mainz 1905"?

Hey thanks. Yeah I was thinking the V might stand for Vereinigten, since it means 'united'. I too am hoping Mainz finally breaks it to the top league this year, it was tragic the way they bowed out last season in the very last game to Braunschweig. (or maybe it was Frankfurt, I can't remember)

Great to see Mainz finally make it to the top flight in Germany after being so close over the past few years.
I went to a Mainz game a few years back and had a great time. Nice little stadium and great fans.
Congratulations!! :D

For me is it a phenomen that Mainz and Wolfsburg have so much interest and fans in North Amerika.

are you with the military? I was in Wiesbaden last summer and noticed alot of Americans there. My friend worked at the wine festival in Wiesbaden in August so I got lots of free drink, good times.

I was stationed in Weisbaden (at Lindsey Air Station,) in the early 90s and my german friends took me for my first taste of European football in Mainz.
Also used to hang out with some of the guys from Springtoifiel (Punk/oi/ska band) who are still kicking it and are huge Mainz 05 fans. Sadly I've lost contact with some of the ones I was the closest to but I will always remember;
"Mainz bleit Mainz so lang gebt Wech, Wurst, und Woi!" (or something like that!)

Mainz will have a lot more interest in the the USA now that they have signed Connor Casey who plays with the US national team.

Small world time again. I see Carta is posting from Zweibruecken. I used to live there many years ago when they had a Canadian air force base there. The American army had a base across town on hill 307 (we called it). Played Little League Baseball in K'town as well.
Carta, 1 FCK has two young Canadians on the their U19 team. Any info you have on them would be appreciated. The 1.FC Kaiserslautern website really doesn't provide any info on the Junioren Bundesliga team.

I read your answers, that decleared it or make me understand.
But for me is the same, I like Mainz, see them three times loose the promotion and when you' ve them not on the promotion bill, they come.
I hope they survive the first year.

From ESPN Soccer.
"The scenes that followed have no parallel in my memory, except maybe for that day in June of 1981 when Schalke were relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time and the club's good-luck-charm-cum-dogsbody Charly Neumann was hugging two hysterical, teenage fans to console them while tears were running down his own face".
I remember this game exactly, after Schalke was relegated (vs. Cologne) we stormed the field and cry with Charly. I`ve a part of the goals net till today at home. And I never forgot the comment on tv, what do you think who's relegated and who's champion. Hamburg was champion this year but the poeple thought Schalke.
