They only need two goals to take it to penalties. Anything can happen then.
Also, I thought my team were "safe" only needing to score a goal or win by a goal against a Czech team to go through.
Didn't happen.
They are called "upsets". Especially in this great game of ours, ANYTHING can happen.
Right when a big club thinks they've got the job done or their opponent isn't any good because of where that opponent is from is usually when that big club gets their asses kicked.
I'm not saying Mainz are going to lose. On the contrary, I think they will advance.
I just don't think it's a "sure thing" or the job is already done. Keflavik is the "FC Bayern" of that nation. They are going home to be boosted and pushed on by their fans. Mainz had that and only scored two goals. Who's to say Keflavik can't do the exact same thing and take the tie on penalties or even a goal in extra time??
Anyone remember Artemedia over Celtic??
Sigma are a better side than Kefavlik and you guys didn't have a two goal advantage when you thought that.
i agree with you that the chance is still there, but at the same time i don't see Kefavlik managing that - Koeln put just one goal in against Mainz at home this weekend and that was through a penalty which shouldn't have been given and despite the fact that Koeln has a pretty strong attack. mainz also played coolly and comfortably in Armenia - they never once looked like letting in a goal in that tie. Basically, Mainz have a pretty strong, stable defense - and i think it'll be extremely difficult for Kefavlik to break it once, nevermind twice. I am about 95% certain that Mainz is through.

zidan goes to mainz for 1 year
Just read that at "Kicker". I guess Conor Casey is history at Mainz as they also picked up a Brazilian striker on loan too.

This could help Mainz against Sevilla.........
Sevilla Chief Feels Heat After Ramos Joins Real
MADRID, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido is feeling the heat from club supporters following the sale of defender Sergio Ramos to Real Madrid.
'I have been vilified in the past 48 hours. I feel as though I have been attacked personally and professionally,' Del Nido told a news conference on Thursday.
'Sevilla stood firm that they would not negotiate to sell Ramos. Anyone who says we did is lying.
'We said the only way the player could leave would be if he rescinded the contract unilaterally and the buying club paid (the buy-out clause) in cash.'
'By doing this I have kept my word to the club's fans.'
Sevilla, who are in their centenary year, have lost two of their key players to Real during the close season along with coach Joaquin Caparros who left to join Deportivo Coruna.
Under Caparros Sevilla finished sixth last season, earning a second successive place in the UEFA Cup.
Brazilian forward Julio Baptista, Sevilla's top scorer over the last two seasons, and the promising young defender Ramos will earn the club up to €51.5 million.
As replacements new coach Juande Ramos has been able to recruit Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano, Mali striker Frederic Kanoute and Argentina striker Javier Saviola on loan.
Sevilla kick off their centenary celebrations with a friendly against Brazil on September 6, with Baptista making a swift return to play against his former club.
Does anyone know if the game of Mainz in Sevilla will be broadcasted here in Germany?

Normally, ZDF or ARD show atleast two matches. I think some way, every single match shall be broadcasted on some channel or other.

I thought that's how it worked too, but perhaps there have been changes since I've been gone??

ARD and ZDF cut down their broadcasts of UEFA-Cup cos they don't want to spend all their money on soccer ;)
So I'm not sure if they'll show any UEFA-Cup matches this season.

Thanks for that Daniel! I'm hearing Premiere is trying to get it all. I'm trying to find out more and more what's going on with football and other sports on TV in Germany. I'm thinking I'm going to be back there sooner rather than later.

Yes they are! But those bloody bastards failed to get the NFL any longer, rights went to some small pay tv channel (NASN)
So no chance for me to see the games anymore :(

Yeah and that sucks so much because I have digital TV and therefore no DSF. :(

I have DSF but it still irritates me now that i found out because DSF can only show about 2 matches a day so out of 5 German teams, three won't be shown. That irritates me 'cause their showing VfB - Domzale on Thursday(I'll be in the stadium anyway so it won't change anything for me) and that means they probably don't show the return leg, which means i can't see it :(
EDIT: I know this is very un-Mainz 05. My apologies.

Mainz head coach Jurgen Klopp has agreed a new two-year contract with the Bundesliga strugglers.
Klopp's new deal will keep him at the Bruchweg Stadion until 2008.
He stated: "Mainz is a fantastic club. We have managed to undertake an amazing development in the last few years without ruining the club's character.
"This club is a huge challenge for me, but one that is great fun."
He added: "There was never really any question of me looking for a fresh challenge elsewhere."
General manager Christian Heidel also expressed his delight at being able to tie down the immensely popular coach.
"Jurgen is the best trainer that we could ever imagine having"
