Yes, I know. They canceled a friendly with us because of all the injuries.

But read the rest I wrote. I said the article says the speculation wasn't just because of the cup match.

EDIT: Or are you saying that maybe Andersen has been fired because his training methods caused the injuries??

UPDATE: Multiple sources, including "Kicker" are reporting that Jörn Andersen has indeed been fired as coach of 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Assistant Coach and Mainz icon Jürgen Kramny has been fired along with Andersen.

More information will follow at Mainz' press conference due to start in about one hour.

That definitely took me by surprise...according to Sport1, there were multiple reasons. Apparently, the team didn't get along with Andersen and his methods. Also, he's being made partially responsible for all those injuries (wrong training) and he's being accused of not being able to function in a team. The lost cup game then provided an opportunity to get rid of him.

This is not a surprise if you followed the local media coverage during the last few days. This coverage itself, however, was very surprising indeed - there have been some extremely critical articles about Andersen, his standing with the team and his training methods. The Mainzer Rhein-Zeitung and the FAZ featured such articles, for example here (http://www.faz.net/s/Rub44F996D550744E2DB7410102C958D9D3/Doc~ED28E7B600DB444E1ADC94CE492404A9D~ATpl~Ecommon~Scontent.html). The author of the linked article is known as a Mainz 05 fan, so it was obvious that his infos must be the truth or close to it. No fan of any team would deliberately write something that negative if it weren't true.

The new coach will be Thomas Tuchel, the coach of the U19 team that became Deutscher Meister a few weeks ago. According to the MRZ, he played for the Stuttgarter Kickers and SSV Ulm where he was coached by Rangnick (who, says the MRZ, already congratulated him via SMS today and offered him the "Du" :D ).

I don't know what to make of the news. I liked Andersen and when he, Heidel and Strutz celebrated the promotion, for instance in SWR's Flutlicht, everything seemed fine. But if those FAZ and MRZ articles are true, it was a good decision.

What a surprise that it worked perfectly last season...

Sacking a manager a few days before the season start, is even more crazy than firing him before last matchday (as happened in Bielefeld). But well, it's not my problem (although I think that our former co-trainer Jörn Andersen didn't deserve that)...

Everything you said makes sense.

However, because what you said makes sense, don't you think that maybe, just maybe, Mainz saw something horrible, decided Andersen was the reason for it, and made an informed, but very risky decision to fire Andersen and hand things over to the youth coach?

I don't think Mainz management just woke up one day, met, and said, "We don't like Andersen anymore, let's fire him."

As far as what you think Andersen deserved, you never think anyone you like "deserves" to get fired even when they actually do deserve it.

I'm not saying Andersen deserved to get fired because I don't know. But because I don't know, I won't say he doesn't deserve it either.

Personally, I think Mainz just signed its own death warrant.

However, Mainz management had to feel something so bad was happening there that they decided taking this very risky chance was better than sticking with Andersen.

I think you should also take that into account before deciding what was "deserved" or not.

But then again, why am I even saying that? You never do when it is someone you like.

But maybe this is a good thing for you.

Andersen will be available for you when Frontzeck keeps up his dubious coaching record........
