Hehe, yea I know where these two bases were even if I didnt realize them cause of my young age ;)
But nice to see how small this world is, as you said :D

Do you have any names of these two players? I can´t find any informations at the moment. Even the official site of the DFB doesnt provide any infos except tables and schedules.

I was stationed at Hahn Air Base from 84-87. Mainz isn't too far from there. I love the Rosenmontag parade there. Of course, I don't remember it too well. :)

The two young Canadian players are Dylan Hughes and Jamie Peters. Hughes was with Kaiserslautern's U19s since last summer and has scored quite often in the DFB Junioren Bundesliga. Peters joined during the season and appears to have been playing as a defender or midfielder. You can see game summaries of Kaiserlautern here:

http://www.dfb.de/bliga/juniorbl/index.html

Pick the Sued/Suedwest division then 'Der Aktuell Spieltag', then 'Info'.

Here is the report from the last U19 game:

Funnily enough, Ledgerwood from 1860 is also a young Canadian who I know quite well.

I sure do miss Mainz - a great town with great fans. So glad to see they finally made it to the first Bundesliga. Be sure to have dinner at the Eisgrub sometime and if you make it across the river, pick up a rack of Kasteler Dunkelbrau.

BTW, Fasching in Mainz is something to experience...

While I am reading all about Mainz, Bill Clinton is here in Germany on the TV in the background. Wanted to write something, but am too unconcentrated. Am glad youall have such great memories of Mainz. The fans and also the trainer are really well loved. Did you know that 14,000 fans came on the first day the team started training????? Conor Casey's injury wasn't as bad as we all thought and it seems he will soon joing the team with full training, not just their favourite pasttime - r u n n i n g.

Great signing :)

--------------------------------------------------

Bundesliga newcomers FSV Mainz have pulled off a notable coup with the permanent capture of Manuel Friedrich from champions Werder Bremen.
Werder have strengthened their rearguard with the signings of Daniel Jensen and Petri Pasanen, which allowed Friedrich to head out of the club.

Friedrich has signed a four-year deal and will be charged with the task of marshalling the club's backline in Die Bundesliga.

"This is the best thing I could imagine for Mainz 05," said coach Jurgen Klopp. "Manu is my most desired player, an extremely important player for our defence."

The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Mainz and he is looking forward to helping the club establish themselves in the top flight.

"For me, the change makes me happy," he told the club's website. "My heart hangs on this city and this club."

Mainz had a friendly yesterday against Rosenborg Trondheim - the belgium winner and Champions League participant - and won 2:0. Personally found Trondheim very weak or was Mainz strong?
Conor Casey is still injured, returned from the preparation hotel up north to medical treatment back in Mainz and hopes to continue training soon.

Mainz had another friendly on sunday with mainly the B-team. Apparently the doc said Casey could have played, but trainer probably thought the risk was too high, so guess he will be in full training today. Will let you know if he plays in the next friendly on Wednesday. On Sunday (1. August) there is also a friendly with Cologne.

Conor played in the 2nd Half. Unfortunately Mainz lost 1:3 against Cologne. The first 3 goals fell within the first 17 minutes (0:1-1:1-1:2). Casey had the 2:2 on his foot but goalkeeper won the "competition".
Next Sunday the official season begins for Mainz in Stuttgart.
