No more Mainz fans around here since the relegation?

Congrats on the impressive 3:0 home win over the leader 1860 Munich! Great game!

Yeah, beat 1860 and lost against Hoffenheim... :(

Apparently the team cant play away games, but is hard to beat at home. Going to be an interesting season, though I'm almost sure that we wont make it to the Bundesliga next year.

Soto will be missing for the complete first half of the season afaik. :(

Thoughts on the Ecuadorian player Borja?????
Scored his 6. goal today - so you can relate that he's a pretty important player for Mainz this season!

surprised?
There havent been any 05 fans besides me around here anyway. Most people that posted here were fans of other teams who liked what Mainz did in the Bundesliga. Of course, this stops when a team gets relegated because it's much harder to follow the 2. Liga than the first (especially most posters being non-Germans).

Btw, playing in Wiesbaden is much more fun than playing in Frankfurt anyway... :p

Your right, it is hard to find anything on Mainz now that they are playing the Zweite Bundesliga again.

Well, everyone in Ecuador is curious about the team while wondering about Borja and how he is doing in Mainz because he is expected to take an active role in their NT QM for 2010. So you might see a few posters lurking about here. I would appeciate a little info everynow and again!! Thanks in advance!

Wishing FSV Mainz a prompt return to Die Erste Bundesliga!!!

Another long-time Mainz fan here. I agree that it's a bit more difficult to stay current now, but luckily I'm German so I can read the kicker and the local papers.

I'm particularly pleased how the team is holding up despite the amount of key injuries. I didn't think the depth would be this good. Borja is on course to making Zidan be forgotten, not an easy feat. Overall very impressed by the new signings, but this is going to be a long and difficult season where I don't really see Mainz as favorites for promotion.

Knowing their luck they'll be the first team to miss out on promotion via the playoffs at the end of next season...

Mainz get Isaac Boakye on loan for the rest of the season. I have always liked Boakye, but injuries have held him back it seems. Maybe he will blossom under Klopp http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/startseite/artikel/373708/

First as to a reason people aren't posting in the thread... I thought it was buried somewhere and haven't even looked for it---and have been just staying on Kigges. The mods might want to add more names under "Germany:Clubs", because seeing the ones listed, I thought those were the only ones here, and didn't even bother checking this whole season. Today, I was really bored and thought I might read what mouthbreathing Frankfurt fans were saying about their overrated club. Before anyone says anything about fans 'not following' the club in the 2.liga... maybe they mean American fans or something, because, if anything, around here there's every bit, if not more, interest in the club. (color me somewhat surprised at that , actually)

Apropo Soto: He's back in training (thank god!!). The Boakye buy had nothing to do with Soto (they don't play the same position)... FIFA ruled back when Soto was bought in the 05ers favor in the dispute with Soto's former club that had loaned him out or something.

Boakye was bought because our strikers (through injuries, and losing Zidan to HSV) have been completely underwhelming. That includes Borja, though he's scored some good goals... mostly he stands around looking completely lost...hoping for a high ball in the box. I know the club just extended his deal, but the guy doesn't impress me at all. His first touch is always, like, 2 feet away from himself, he can't create space for himself. Ah well, Maybe with another player to play off of, he'll be better. We'll see.

It has always been linked on the Welcome thread

and there is only 1 1/2 pages for clubs...so it wasn't "buried"

He didn't play for 4 months because he blew out his ACL in preseason. The dispute with his old club was settled last year by FIFA. Maybe it's an old report?
