Will Zidan stay? Can Mainz keep a hold of him despite him only signing in january? We all know contracts mean nothing these days
Zidan will most likely leave with Stuttgart being his most likely destination.....

Would be great if he joined us :)
Though for now it's just a rumour, nothing official yet.

well they certainly mean a transfer fee, and that's not nothing.

We can put it that way. Whatever makes him coming to VfB more likely, is fine by me ;)

It looks like Mainz 05 will follow us to the 2nd league...
What a pity that their sensational catch-up attempt after the winter break was probably useless. :(
<sing> ...zweiiiite liga... scheiiiiiss egal... wird schon geh'n! <sing>
no more mode fans! better more tradtional clubs...'60, koeln, 'gladbach, 'lautern, ect. (as opposed to wolfsburg, neverkusen, usw.) ... heck we'll even have a new derby with sv wehen-wiesbaen (hypen to be added next year). and we won't have to get to the friggin' block an hour ahead of kickoff.
<sing> nie mehr 'commerz-liga'... nie mehr nie mehr! <sing> :) always look for the positive!

there is still hope to switch places with wolfsburg!
Yes.
Seriously, it's always bad to get relegated because it means failure but 2. Bundesliga will rock pretty much next year, maybe the best 2. Liaga ever with full stadiums, great derbies and atmosphere and should see a new attendance hopefully without Burghausen and Unterhaching.
Would be terrible to have Burghausen, Unterhaching, Hoffenheim and Wehen in the 2. BL.
* Aachen
* M'Gladbach
* Mainz (probably)
* Köln
* K'Lautern
* Freiburg
* Aue
* Offenbach (hopefully)
* Ausgsburg
* 1860 Munich
* Essen (hopefully )
two of
* Pauli
* Magdeburg
* Osnabrück
* Dresden
Of course it will be tough to get promoted because clubs like Köln and Hoffenheim can spend so much money on good players but this season showed that that's not always enough.

Well said! Of course we're praying to the 'fussballgott' very hard this week, and i even have tix for the season 'finale' in Muenchen (psyched to see the Allianz Arena and to party in one of my favorite cities in the world even if we go down). And the biggest problem (as you mentioned) is that promoting back up from the 2.liga with so many traditional clubs and/or wealthy clubs is going to be terrifically difficult, 'specially for lil' ol' Mainz 05. But even if we manage to stay up by some miracle, I think I'll be watching a ton of 2.liga next year--- I watch derbies and interesting teams now in the 2.liga, but there'll be a lot more of that next year.

Lady, this is one of the best posts I've seen on the 2. Liga in a LONG TIME!! I think it may even be more interesting than the 1. Liga next season! This post is so positively REPPED!!!
"Todd11", I may be in contact with you about trying to get to Mainz to see Mainz v. 1860 next season!
That is, unless something grand happens and I'm contacting you about meeting for Mainz v. BVB! :D

Uhm, Hoffenheim and Wehen will make great derbies in the Southwest.
Mainz
Kaiserslautern
Koblenz
Offenbach
Wehen-Wiesbaden (their 2. Liga name)
Hoffenheim
Of course, Wehen-Wiesbaden vs Mainz is going to be another home game for Mainz. :D

Well, our victory wasn't useless--- but the @#$% son of a @#$%^, !@#$%*& bought and sold for a !@#%& Aachen goalkeeper sure was USELESS!! I'm not one for conspiracy theories... but how in the... arrrgggghhhhh. ah well. Usually a keeper doesn't turn a shoulder to a shot...hit right directly straight at him. As the Italians say..."soccer is cruel and you must suffer"... or something like that. :( I really feel bad for Zidan now that he has two huge useless tattoos (Mainz written in gothic script) on his forearms! Wonder how they'll feel about that in Stuttgart or Hamburg?! I just feel privledged to have seen his style and brilliance in the stadium for a couple of half seasons.
At least it'll be a fun 2.liga season. But with all the good clubs, it'll be so hard to gain promotion again. All the best to 'gladbach as well.

so much tradition
So many good football teams. I know, I for one, have never bought a ticket to see anyone based on "tradition....."
Please. What does it mean?
Are all the old ghosts going to come out and play?
I think "Tradition" is a great thing to use for pride in your own club.
I can't see where "tradition" has anything to do with how "amazing" a league is going to be.
How do you see that? Honest question, not a smart remark man. I can't get that one.
I'm just not going to be more hyped to see Mainz rather than Koblenz based on Mainz's "tradition". I'll be more hyped because Mainz is a better side.

First off, Mainz are not really a traditional team in the normal sense IMHO. Since before we were promoted we had never played in the 1.liga, and so forth. It could be argued that Mainz 05 were a traditional 2.liga team having set the record for the longest time spent in the 2.liga without relegating or promoting (kinda dubious honor that!). So I don't really include us in the traditional club vs. plastic club argument.
I have bought tickets based on tradition. I (and 20,000 others) have attended games to watch St.Pauli even in the Regionaliga. It's why (no offense meant here) I always make the trek to see a game in the Westfalenstadion ---despite somewhat mediocre teams in the last few years.
I would loosely define 'tradition' clubs as those that are relatively famous (or infamous in some cases)--- for any number of reasons--- throughout fans of the league. These reasons could be a history of winning, great fan support, cult status in some cases, or just a long history of the club over the years. I think mostly you can define 'tradition' by the history of the club--- but because of the history (good and bad times for most clubs)... these traditional clubs have a large enough base of support that if they relegate or have financial difficulties, they'll still have good support.
Which is why certain teams don't qualify as 'tradition' clubs. Leverkusen for example is a team that I have paid to see because of the quality of their team---for me, hardly any other German club played as nice soccer as them back in the 2001-03 years...and even this year their combination play, I find very good. But if they ended up having a financial crisis and ended up relegating, spending, say, 3 years or more in the 2.liga--- its just my opinion, but you'd see a pretty empty stadium, because their base of support isn't based on 'tradition'. Does that make sense? Obviously, this is just my opinion and others may have a better, clearer definition of tradition than I do.
Because so many teams with traditional support (many of them traditional clubs), will play in the 2.liga next year (you have to admit, a bad game with good atmosphere is always better than a bad game with lame atmosphere)--- it's going to be an interesting and fun year...even if it is 'only' the 2.liga.

@footyfan:
Lets say on one hand you have a league of: Cologne, Lautern, Magdeburg, 1860, Düsseldorf, Braunschweig, Essen, Dresden, Jena, Sachsen Leipzig...
On the other hand you have a league with the same exact players, only spread over teams like: Unterhaching, Burghausen, Wehen, Hoffenheim, Emden, Meppen, Paderborn, Koblenz...
Now do you honestly want to tell me youd prefer the 2nd one at any time??
And did you honestly just call Mainz a traditional club?!?! sorry but WTF?!? :D
@todd: Ever heard the name Fortuna Köln? They were in 2nd Bundesliga for 26 consecutive years between 74 and 00...

If they were playing better football than the bigger names, then YES!
You didn't name one club on either list I would go to see just because of what their name is. The only two you named I would go to see are 1860 and Kaiserslautern and that's because of my PERSONAL CONNECTION with them.
I don't buy tickets to see clubs because of what they've done in the past.
And did you honestly just call Mainz a traditional club?!?! sorry but WTF?!? :D
This is the Mainz thread so I used them as an example........

Its not about buying tickets to games of that club. I wouldnt buy tickets to see Dortmund, Bremen or Bayern aswell... or ANY other team. But I would definitely prefer MY TEAM playing against these kinds clubs. Because lets face it: Seeing your team play infront of half-empty 5000 seaters isnt exactly fun...
This is the Mainz thread so I used them as an example........
So if I open a Hoffenheim Thread you would call them a traditional team too in this thread?
And today no one gives a rat's ass........
And yet it is still the record. Which is why I told it to todd who said that Mainz holds that record. Its not like someone giving a rats ass or not changes an existing record... :rolleyes:
