The games in Mainz are all sold out. But very oftentimes there are people standing right at the main entrance holding up tix in the air (signaling they're selling). Ask 'em how much they want (they'll speak English, and if not... money's an international lang. :) ) . With it being Bielefeld there's a good chance that some people will be selling (since it's not Bayern or whatever). Get there early, earlybird and all that. If you don't score tix... right across the street (in the King-Park Center shopping center) are some bars that will show the game for sure... and you'll be right in the middle of the atmosphere at least in the worst case senario.
It's an easy ride on the S-bahn as well. Very Convienent. I'd give it a try... taking the chance you get in is well worth it.... you'll never forget the atmosphere. For such a small stadium it's very, very loud.

Hey Mainz Supporters,
I am in Germany this week and I want to catch a football match. I am at a trade show in Frankfurt - and Mainz is home. The stadium looks very cool, and, they are playing my "host company's" home team, Bielefeld. So - how hard is it to walk up and get tickets on Saturday afternoon? I'm thinking of just taking the S-Bahn down to Mainz from my hotel in Frankfurt.
Thanks!
Just saw online that there are still tickets for the game available because Bielefeld sent back 900 tix of their away tix-allotment. So if you can get to the stadium today, you can buy a ticket--- if the ticket windows arent' open, go across the street to the 05er fanshop... its in the KingParkCenter shopping center all the way to the very left (if youre facing the shopping center).

Oh and one other option... there will be 500 of those tix available at the away fan box office starting at 1:00pm so you can get one of those for sure if you get there in time. good luck and AUF GEHT'S MAINZER!

Does anybody knows how is Elkin Soto doing with his injury? When he will be coming back?? Are there any news about it??

The surgery supposedly went very well. I haven't read if he's training yet. It was supposed to be 4-6 weeks... and we're about at 4 weeks now. I do know from reports, that his wife is now here! (which doesn't tell you anything much about his injury). It will be big news when he begins training again, so I'll post then. I really hope he's able to get back in the team, because he was showing very well for the team.

Today's "kicker" says that the state of Rheinland-Pfalz, the city of Mainz and the club have finally come to an agreement on plans for a new 35,000 seat stadium in Mainz.
The stadium is expected to open in 2009,
Here's the article in German at kicker.de.

"We will build a stadium that will be steep, narrow and full of atmosphere like no other."
OMG, I'm jelous. 35.000 is a perfect size.
Good on them to recognize the importance of atmosphere. We have enough soulless stadiums already.

any news about elkin soto?
Yes,
according to the local paper, MRZ, he's to begin full normal training on Friday. He's being checked today once more by his surgeon and if all goes well... which they believe it will, he'll start training, as stated, on Friday. He's been working out, doing light jogging and work with the ball. Coach Klopp said that Soto's running fully normally. I hope they don't rush him... but we need him back pronto! Such a bummer he got injured just when the team was really playing well (with Elkin a big part of the reasons why they were playing well).

thanks for the update todd. I hope he can make it in time for Copa America, as he is key to our MF.

no problem. More news: Elkin played the whole match for us on Sunday in Hamburg. I was a little bit amazed that they'd throw him back in so quickly and in such an important game. He was very good in the first 20 min. Didn't look like he had even been injured. Working up and down the left side of midfield. He was great on the ball in tight spaces (no surprise), and was a full-on midfield terrier defensively as well (it is this aspect of his game that has really impressed me since he's been with us--- I expected him go be great offensively, but he's excellent defensively as well). He sort of disappeared for awhile after that, though. In fairness we were playing a new formation with 1 striker and 5 midfielders... but going forward it looked much more 4-3-3 than 4-5-1. In any case the game didn't find him there for a while.
He had several good scenes in the second half and what really sticks out in my mind is that around the 80 min mark (we were still leading 2-1 at that point), is that I noticed him stading at the midfield stripe, hands on hips... clearly gassed (no surprise with such a long layoff), but he suddenly made a 50 meter sprint and caught a Hamburg player from behind that had deked passed our left back, Marco Rose. Then Soto deftly turned and twisted cafefully bringing the ball back out of danger, and (unfortunately) was left without help along the left touch line--- he proceeded to (despite his diminuative size) hold off 2 and then a 3rd Hamburg player for what seemed like a full minute, before banging the ball off the Hamburger (:)) into touch for a Mainz throw. And he continued to play both energetically and smart the rest of the way.
The 84th min. "equalizer" for Hamburg came off a corner kick header that rebounded off the post, and fell luckily and perfectly for Hamburg. So Soto wasn't at any way in fault for it. It goes without saying (this is Mainz 05) that Hamburg was awarded (or should I say given... as it clearly was a gift) a laughable penatly kick for their first goal---even Uwe Seeler, the great former Hamburg player, interviewed at halftime joked that he was grateful for it. Another 2 pts lost (or 1 point won, I guess), as we were the better team on the field. But the team played much better than last week, and I think that Soto definitely was a big reason for that. Looking forward to seeing him here at home next weekend.

I wouldnt be crying all too loud tough. Hamburg did not recieve a penalty in two other "questionable" scenes. One of them (before the 1-1) was actually a pretty clear foul...

unfortunate, but not a bad result. 3 points at home against hannover this weekend would be perfect. Werder will beat Bielefeld for you.

They can definitely do it too. From what I saw at Hannover, they're not terribly impressive, the 1-0 against Gladbach was deserved, but not very impressive. If they start Hashemian...well actually all of the Hannover strikers are horrible atm.

What a sensational goal from Zidan!

I'm not recalling these?? I do remember a foul by Mainz at the top of the box that I was praying was not inside the box...and replays seemed to show, that at best it was difficult to say, but most likely it was from outside the area with the player falling inside the area.
I do recall a clear penalty not given to the 05er, however. My man, Mathijsen for HSV, same dude who got turned (and turned...and turned) by Zidan on his sweet goal like I used to turn my little brother in the backyard---put a full-on bearhug wrestle to the ground-move on Andreasen at the 6, with no call.
In any case, everyone who has seen him play knows Jarolim is a little punk-*ss diver... and our defenders really shoulda known he'd be flopping around like an Italian on extascy, and been more careful... although on the penalty no-one even brushed him, so there's not much more they could've done I suppose other than run away from him everytime he came near. Ah well... you make your own luck, and in the last 2 away games we've haven't been clever enough with a 2-1 lead to win , so, it's our own fault. Unfortunately, we have to win against 96, but I suppose we'll see what the team's made of for sure.

It looks like Mainz 05 will follow us to the 2nd league...
What a pity that their sensational catch-up attempt after the winter break was probably useless. :(

Will Zidan stay? Can Mainz keep a hold of him despite him only signing in january? We all know contracts mean nothing these days
