Doubt that Niculae starts.... more likely Zidan and Ruman--- assuming that Ruman is healthy again, which he appears to be... but that's not for sure as he's had a nightmare of injuries in the last year. But most importantly...the prophet mohammed is back in the holy land!!!! (of Rheinhessen ;) )

They've sure been building up Niculae as if he's going to start, but I'll take your word for it.

Cant wait to see Zidan back in action for Mainz when I come out to visit in May!

I think Mainz did very well with their winter purchases and might even safe themselves. They need good results in their first game of course to start something and get confidence back.

Dude. He was there last season. It's not going to take him long to settle back in.......

What's going to take the longest is setting up a working relationship with Niculae.

I was talking about the Columbian attacking midfielder.

You could be right. He may well start. They've been now been talking about bringing Ruman back slowly. (and he may play in behind the front two as well...) I'm interested to see Niculae, but from what the fans from the St. Liege boards say... they weren't too thrilled with him. There's a test match on Sat. here, so I'm excited to see what he brings.

Appopro Zidan: problem will be that the expectations are so incredibly, ridiculously high for him right now. People forget it took him several months to find the net when he first arrived here last year, and that everyone was then saying he was too much of an individual dribble queen (he had a habit of putting his head down and trying to beat 4 players everytime he got the ball--- usually dazzling... but losing the ball on the 4th). In time he tempered that tendency a little bit (still dazzling though), and became a sensation.

If we somehow miraculously stay up... the party hereabouts will make our Promotion party (what a night that was! phew!) look like a kindergarten birthday party! And if we relegate... we'll party as well--- no more Kommerzliga! (Mainzers will always find a reason to party!) ;)

Actually, I just want to see the return of Spassfussball (at least a little bit!) here am Bruchweg. The fall season was just so dreadful to watch compared to the attacking soccer we've become accustomed to here since Kloppo became coach.

Could not tell. The current conversation was about Niculae. How about quoting what you're responding to??

Thanks for the awesome post! Rep coming your way. We've been wondering what Soto's deal is... I'm excited to see him in action here at the Bruchweg!

np... wondering how he was doing.. but he is def very very good, very explosive and can change the game in a second.. i was very angry when Once Caldas sent him to ecuador whos league is not as good as ours(colombia)

everyone is very happy he went to one of the big leagues in europe their was some news that he was going to croatia which we didnt want because we dont think its a better league than ours and we were afriad he would get lost. In colombia if u dont play in colombia, mexico, brasil, arg, france, spain, italy or germany then u will never make the NT. Once of switerlands starting strikers Vonlathen is colombian but he didnt play in one of the big nations in europe so we lost our chance with him :(

any way back to soto has he played yet or goten a # ? Everyone is kind of nervous cause he is said to be owned by once caldas but he and his agent say he owns his own rights... and thats how u guys got him as a free agent.

any way I hope he does well for ur team but am worried because germany is alot diff from colombia the food and language might be a bit hard, but its nice to see him in small club because he is sort of a shy guy.

here r some of his goals

colo - uru (http://youtube.com/watch?v=E3IdAch8QRY)

colo - peru (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8gGCG4QCbxI)

tho soto is more of a giver than a taker of chances... but he has been known to score some nice goals

Well, apparently Maint won't build a new stadium after all. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate announced today that they won't give money.

That's not really fair ... as Lautern received a lot of financial support for its stadium (no matter if it was only due to the WC).

It was the same with Hanover and Braunchweig for the 74 world cup.

Ours too. They always give us hell in Mainz and I expect them to again on Wednesday night in front of their fantastic supporters.

I thought this was kinda cute (I'm a girl after all):

Typical Kloppo, typical Mainz.
I still think they can do it. Andreasen apparently had quite a good game as well.

You've really hit it on the head with Andreasen... he's exactly what we've been missing. He can play really nice, good football, but more importantly he's got real bite and tenacity---along with a lil' bit o' a mean streak. Our midfield has looked 10 times better with him in it (well, it's early days yet... I've only seen him in the test match against Wacker Tirol, and the Bochum game to go on---but if he keeps this up...).

Zidan, we all knew what he can do on the ball... but his enthusiasim is really contagious, he's even got Mimoun smiling again.

I really hope the nonsense with Soto is resolved soon, I want to see what he can offer as well. Niculae has come off the bench and looked decent--- like another Auer or Casey actually--- strong on the ball, not fast, but composed and capable.

The news with the stadium isn't all bad... maybe now they'll revive talks with Wiesbaden about building in Mainz -Kastel--- my S-Bahn ride would only be 5 min. instead of 11. ;) Seriously, though, it does seem unfair in all the help they gave 'Lautern n' all... but, then, we're just a Karnivalsverein.

What a renascence! Kudos to Kloppo's team for this great moral!
