As a Mainz fan who grew up in Europe and had a chance to expereince the team in the 2. Liga and now see them a few years later in the Bundesliga-I am very happy! It is so great to find an English thread on Mainz 05-there are not many! Sadly, we just lost Thurk...it will be a loss, but I look forward to Szabics coming von 1.FC Koeln. Mainz looked good against Liverpool and I tip that they will win this Saturday 1:0. I'm hoping that after all the new players added over the summer that some of the older players that were loaned to other teams will come through this year such as Jovanovic and Azaouagh. Also look for Manuel Friedrich, who almost made the German national team, to play a fabulous season as well. Go Mainz!!

Where does Conor Casey these days for Mainz. No Auer, no Thurk--is he going to be a regular starter?

As much as I think Casey has a lot of promise for Mainz, I think it is going to be a challenge for him to be an everyday starter. Now with Edu with Mainz as well as Szabics and Damm, Mainz is almost overloaded with forward power. I think after Casey returns from his injury, he will need to play well quickly in order to maintain any role at all with Mainz.

Sweet! Tobias Damm seems to be from northern Hessen! He played for FC Schwalmstadt (formerly known as TuSpo Ziegenhain) last year, which automatically makes him my favorite Mainz player (as I lived there once!) :D

He also made Kicker's Elf des Tages. Congrats!

Actually, I think Damm will help Mainz greatly. Let's hope he becomes one of Mainz's top goal scorers for this season !!

Just read on the offical Mainz 05 homepage that Mainz will indeed get a new stadium. It will hold 35.000 fans and be ready early 2009.
There are no pictures yet because they first need to decide between 2 models.

That's a good size. I wish 96's stadium would also be a little bit smaller, a stadium for 40.000 would have been perfect for us.

Anyone think 35.000 is a bit much for Mainz. 25000-30000 should be enough

But nonetheless congrats

They've got the best striker in the BL with Szabics :D

Just kidding, Niculae has been very good in the Romanian league, this should be a good decision by the Mainz side.

hi guys .. news in colombia is that you guys are tring to or have signed colombian NT player Elkin Soto. Just want to know what you guys know about it and if you guys want any info on him...

The thing is that on ur web site, cant read german and the english translation doesnt make much sense but from what I got is that he came to Mainz for free from Barcalona of ecuador. The thing is that isnt his team, he was loaned to them by former south american champions Once Caldas of Colombia. They own his rights and loaned him to barcalona with an option to buy for $1.5 million dollars which they could not pay, then he was supose to go to either argentina or portugal. Then we heard that he had signed to Mainz but that Once Caldas did not know anything about it.

As for him believe he is either 25/26 and is a wide mid fielder, very fast, great long shots, good on defense and helping the offense. He really was the key player for colombia when he put on our uniform, sadly our coach discovered him to late into qualifiers and he played 5 games and scored 3 times and had 2 passes that became goals. Good free kicker and corner taker as well.

he was also one of the key players of the small colombian club once caldas winning the south american championship, and scored the winning pk that eliminated the biggest club in south america boca juniors.

Could be an interesting transfer, but its going to take him awhile to settle into Mainz, and Mainz doesn't have time, they're in the relegation zone in last place and need points pronto.

Mainz re-signed Zidan for a club-record fee of €2.5 million ! If he can reproduce the same form the last time he was at Mainz then he could be a very influential signing

He'd better produce. They are gambling much of the club's financial life on this.......

Dude. He was there last season. It's not going to take him long to settle back in.......

What's going to take the longest is setting up a working relationship with Niculae.

Doubt that Niculae starts.... more likely Zidan and Ruman--- assuming that Ruman is healthy again, which he appears to be... but that's not for sure as he's had a nightmare of injuries in the last year. But most importantly...the prophet mohammed is back in the holy land!!!! (of Rheinhessen ;) )

Thanks for the awesome post! Rep coming your way. We've been wondering what Soto's deal is... I'm excited to see him in action here at the Bruchweg!
