Can Adelaide beat heavy underdogs Waitakere to set up a re-match with Gamba Osaka who beat them convincingly in the AFC Champions League final?

Adelaide United should win this one, and as a result send Waitakere United home very early.
My prediction for this match is as follows:

Adelaide United 3 - 1 Waitakere United

Therefore meaning that I do expect the AFC Champions League Final rematch to occur between my predicted winners and the J-League Club known as Gamba Osaka, this in the CWC First Round.

If Wellington schooled them with their reserve team then surely Adelaide can rack up at least 5 goals against them?

Yep, after losing 7:0 to A-League side Wellington Phoenix in CWC preparation you have to think that Waitakere would be happy to keep the loss to a two-goal margin.

My prediction: Adelaide - Waitakere 3:0

Can't see the New Zealanders keeping this a fair match. My only hope is that if Adelaide beat Waitakere that we'll be playing Gamba with a full-strength squad compared to the piss-poor squad we had in the ACL. Then we'll see how well Adelaide can do against the mighty Osaka ;)

TBH, i can't see Adelaide beating Gamba should they make it past Waitakere. They're a better side than what they showed in the ACL final, but Gamba have alot more class across the park. Happy to be proved wrong though! ;)

Looks like Waitakere has one more warm-up match against Ningbo Province in China.

Let's see how this one turns out...

I'd love to see an upset, due to my following Melbourne and a family friend in NZ. But I do think it'll be 3:0 if conservatively played by AU.

And here's news that Adelaide will once again be playing with a depleted squad:

I only see one injury-related absence (Lucas Pantelis.)

Keep in mind the "mighty" osaka came 8th in J.league.

Oh wait. You're right. I completely misread that article and took it as being at least 3 players out, including the aforementioned Pantelis and the two Brazilians. Well then, this ought to be a much better match.

Adelaide beat Kashima so i suppose they must be better than every Japanese team in the world as Kashima is coming first in the J-League yep yep

Adelaide just beat Wellington 6-1. And Wellington were in form going into the match. Much improved Adelaide from when they played Gamba.

IF Adelaide can play like that again when they meet Gamba, they would have a decent chance of knocking them off - It should be high scoring at least anyway.

Last week:
Wellington Phoenix 7 - Waitakere United 0
Last night:
Adelaide United 6 - Wellington Phoenix 1

Next week:
Presumably Waitakere wins. That's how these jokes usually end.
