Nice to come back from a couple weeks overseas and see good stuff on S&A.

I wonder if it would be worth using the offsides trap adjustments for save percentage discussed in previous threads.

For a team with an MLS-average offense, it takes about 0.165 goals saved per game to add an extra win over the course of a season. The keepers listed in NoSix's rating faced an average of 6.15 shots per 90 minutes, so a difference in save percentage (or maybe goalkeeper rating) of 0.165/6.15=0.027 is equal to one win over a season. From tachyon1's ratings, the difference between the best and worst goalies in the league is about 4 wins.

Hi guys interesting points as ever,

I fear that any keeper evaluation system is going to be compromised and subjective to some degree because of the nature of the team game.

Take one small correction issue.Keepers don't save all shots on target saved, sometimes defenders do it for them.So are you going to credit a keeper for forcing a striker wide & allowing his full back to easily clear the resulting shot off the line or are you going to downgrade him because of it.

For the record Busch & Meola appear to top the charts in having on target shots cleared by team mates. Not sure if this makes them better or worse keepers....probably worse if it keeps happening.

The best test of a keepers ratings would probably be if you used it mid season to predict his end of season record or you asked fans if in their subjective opinion their keeper was where he deserved to be in the vaste order of things.(Maybe I'll try posting to the team sites:-)).

The question of a keepers worth to his side & the prevalence of offsides & how it might skew stats is well worth looking at.I'll dig out a few numbers.
