Apparently, United have agreed a multi million pound deal with Saudi Telecom to become our shirt sponsor. Reports say we will replace AIG from next season, and Saudi Telecom are favourites to get the deal, as they have one foot in the door with a £10m sponsor deal already. This is all because of AIG's problems with the credit crunch.


Any word on this?

AIG still have one season left... their £19M annual deal runs out in 2010. wouldn't they have to buy out of their contract if they were to be gone next season?

i don't remember how Vodafone got out of their deal early.

There was a clause in the Vodafone contract where after so many years each party would hold a review and decide whether to continue or not. As they wanted to move into Grand Prix racing they decided to opt out, which was ok for United as the AIG deal was even bigger (which no doubt pissed off some of the doomlords)

I have always liked how Sharp and now AIG looked on our shirt. But if we are going to have to change into something similar to Chelsea, yeah I wish we could go sponsor less. However there is this thing called debt. :(

Going sponsorless isn't a financially viable option, as already pointed out. Kits are no longer things to cherish, etc. They're money spinners. It's that simple. We need the dough.
