Is the NUFC starting 11 at full health? Think Shearer will lead us to glory over Liverpool? :)

Bowyer is out with a groin strain, but we have plenty of midfield cover, e.g. Nol and Hugo.

Apart from that, we should have a full squad to pick from.

Kewell is now injured for Liverpool. As Owen was previously ruled out that should mean Heskey and Sinama-Pongolle starting for the Scousers. I don't say this often, but I am confident that our back four can deal with them.

The vile Dietmar Hamann is apparently likely to start for the Scroungers. I am currently exercising my vocal chords to be able give him the abuse he deserves tomorrow.

Hammann is beyond useless.

Scum....

I used to like Hamann quite a bit...and thought he was a good signing. While he was with us, he scored some key goals to keep us from being relegated in the 1999/2000 season(I think-or 1998/1999). Then he ********ing lied and said he wanted to stay at the club pretended to be with his sick wife in Munich while negotiating with the scousers. Although, if I'd been playing under Gullit I think I'd want a transfer too.

Wasn't the rumor that Hamann left because of Ruud Gullit? I liked Hamann too and thought he would stick with us for a while. Not much of a big loss really.

Yes, I agree, as a player he was not bad. As Fat Dutchman says, it was his deceit over the transfer that makes him unpopular in the Toon.

AAAARGH! Bramble is a JerkA$$! Woodgate is set to head away, Bramble comes over his back and takes the two of them out. Murphy has a sitter past Given. Liverpool 1-0 at the half. This isn't the first time he's Bungled one this season. Time for him to sit! Shearer close with a header, Jenas a coulple of weak chances.

Thx,

Jay!

SHEARER!!!! Off the woodwork from the penalty spot after Kirkland upended Robert in the box...1-1

1-1

Great second half. Kinda what was needed last week, which would have been a win. Solano on for Hughes at right back was a difference maker. Liverpool had 2 saved by Given inside 50th minute. Then Liverpool strangely put on Smicer up top in place of Sinarama. It was all the lads after that. Tons of pressure, a couple of balls saved off the line by Murphy and Hyyypia. Athough Smicer beat Bramble badly, but couldn't finish. Given with a third one-hander low at the post off a Hamman shot. No doubt about the penalty. Dyer played an excellent ball into Robert, who played it away from Kirkland who took out the back leg. Deserved more here, but I'll take it. Down with 'Spurs!

Thx,

Jay!

Hard to be happy with this result. Home to a flat scouser side missing both Owen and Kewell should be the full 3 points.

Certainly the Toon dominated the second half and created lots of chances, but the unfortunate truth is that none of them found the basket.

For me this game was a series of frustrations due to inconsistencies. Poor balls into the box by Ameobi and Robert (among others), hesitating in the box by Ameobi, on/off defense by Bramble, and inability to strike the ball by Jenas. Robert escapes some criticism by drawing the penalty.

Fortunately Given was up to task and arguably saved this game from being a loss.

I just watched the afternoon showing of this match (I don't know why the rest of you FSWer's bothered to wake up early, it wasn't that hard to avoid finding out the result), and I'm quite pleased with the effort and talent from the home side.

Yes, I agree with greenie that we should have gotten three points, but after watching that thrilling second half, its impossible for me to be upset with the Newcastle team. We certainly did enough to earn the full 3 points, but looking at the table, I'm just not sure that it matters.

There's no hope of passing all three teams at the top and winning the league, so realistically we only need to play for 4th place. If we play like we did today for the rest of the season, we should be able to secure 4th place quite easily. And who knows, without the pressure of challenging for the Premiership, maybe we'll be able to find some success in the 2 Cup competitions.

Two points thrown away indeed. Personally I thought Bobby should have put Nobby on the right, put Dyer in the middle and taken out either Jenas or Speed.
We might certainly might have deserved the win, but we didn't. Good teams win who don't deserve to. Even if a spot in the top three is unrealistic, why play for fourth? Why set your standards lower when you never know what could happen(though very unlikely). I'd rather aim high and settle for a bit lower than aim lower and finish even lower than what you wanted(meaning lower than 4th-which stills seems an unfortunate possibility for this team).
Who's in fourth right now?? It's Fulham and let me see, they beat Bolton today. We drew with Bolton earlier this season. They've also beat Manure and drawn with the Arse. We lost to both those teams.
I guess we bother getting up early Cleazer, because we really give a sh!t about this team. You can paint over a performance like this with sunshine and roses, but in truth performances like this(where we've looked good enough to win, but haven't) won't see us come near 4th.

Another mediocre (being nice) showing by the Tool. Let's hope the club have secretly signed Bocanegra and have him available come January.

Sorry for that last abrasive post. I've been really busy and things have been quite hectic to say the least for me. And I was just really disappointed that we didn't beat the scousers.

Remind me never, ever again to be confident about our back four.
