We are now in the Copa Libertadores!!!! We are also leading on the favorite team pool of this Board and yet I do not see a thread started for our team. I just wanted to see everyone's opinion on our chances at the south american most prestigious tournament that we won twice and make the finals three consecutive years. I know we need major roster changes before we can become a contender, but where do we start giving the boot? P.S.: While I lived in Brazil, I had the opportunity to attend the Copa Libertadores final of 1992 [There was 105,000 in the stadium]. This was the most memorable game in my life.

I missed those years when we used to win everything and beat everyone. Now part of being a sao-paulino is learning to have hopes and not matter how limited your team is, you think you are going to take it all. LOL I got hopes but I am realistic, I think we should at least qualify for the next round. The drawing for teams and groups for the Copa Libertadores will be December 17, 2003. Lets see who our tricolor will face on the first round. We will need all the luck we can get :)

10 years ago exactly I couldn't stand São Paulo. They were the pain in the neck of Flamengo that year. First they eliminated us from Copa Libertadores and later won the Supercopa in that awesome final against Flamengo. That was the last real Flamengo team IMO and I thought we didn't deserve to lose that championship to a team which only play consisted in a Leonardo running through the sideline to the back line and low crossing it to a Müller in the box to score. What pissed me off the most were all the Vasco and Fluminense fans jumping in the São Paulo bandwagon. Maybe it was the same time that our buddy Alex_1 jumped in it too. ;)
But that hatred passed a few time after and I started to hate Grêmio during the 95/96 time.

Funny you mentioned. I was going through my old tapes a few months ago and found some highlights of those games (1993 Libertadores and Supercopa) Great Great games!!! It was so great to see Marcelinho Carioca miss a penalty in the shoot-outs [Hate that player]. Nelio scored a beautiful goal on Zetti and Palhinha gave his magic touch to put the ball over Flamengo's keeper Gilmar [ex SPFC]

The team wasn't taking the game seriously. Falmengo is already used in playing these games that are worth anything...hehehehe. We spent our energies before to get qualified to Libertadores...

Once upon a time there was a SPFC thread but it has since been a few months.

But inevitably there probably will be result discussions so I had to change the thread title.

My god...
Only 4 matches...
Today, SP advanced into the semifinals after beat Dep.Tachira 4-1 in Venezuela.
We're now one of the 4 best clubs in Americas...
Now, or Santos or Once Caldas.
It would be nice to play against Santos, but let´s see what´s gonna happen!
Força Tricolor!

I hope Sao Paulo can go through this step.
I hope that São Paulo "B" can make a good match in LA too.

I can proudly say that I was in Morumbi in the game against Newell's Old Boy (ARG) in 1992 when we won our first Copa Libertadores. 110,000 fans and the great feeling of being sao-paulino. Still got the tix framed :-D. Maybe on June 30th, I'll be that happy again.
How about when we beat Barcelona and Milan then? No better feeling.
