Berti Vogts has brought in Jamie Smith of Celtic and Robert Malcolm of Rangers for the Scotland squad to face Ireland at Hampden next week.

There are recalls for Don Hutchison, Kenny Miller and Colin Cameron, while Kevin Kyle has been named in both A and Under 21 squads, and will join the A squad after playing at Kilmarnock on Tuesday night. Celtic goalkeeper Robert Douglas is unlikely to take part in the match, but will train with the squad.

Matteo quits Scotland

I guess we can scratch Matteo off the list, which is a shame. You never want to see a player end their international or club play because of injuries.

They should recall Lee Wilkie then . He's been playing very well for the Dee lately .

Why does the fact that my 900th post here is about something to do with the Scottish National team make me smile ?

Ross out for us

Keane & Duff out for Irish!

On the goalkeeping situation, why doesn't Vogts call up Alan Main to play in goal on Wednesday?

Scotland Under 21s showed the way for the senior team at Rugby Park last night, defeating their Irish counterparts 2-0 with goals from Maloney and Lynch.

Scotland could have extended their victory as James McFadden fired a 59th minute penalty past the post, but television replays showed that the award was probably unjust in any case.

Scotland had several chances to go ahead in a lively first half, with Kevin Kyle coming closest with a long range effort. But it was Shaun Maloney who opened the scoring four minutes before the break with a superb dipping free kick from almost 30 yards out.

Rainer Bonhof made five substitutions at half time, and continued to change the team with another couple of subs during the second half. And it was Simon Lynch who completed the victory in 69 minutes, just two minutes after he came on for Kyle, by finishing off a sweet passing movement at the second attempt.

2-0 Ireland

...another dismal performance at a half empty Hampden! :(

At least the U 21s won last night & England got a doing from the Socceroos!!!

I dont mind the defeat so much as it was a meaningless game, the fact that berti one game looks to have a system and the next were playing the headless chicken approach to football is worrying though.

11 Thomas McManus (Hibernian)

Gary McSwegan (Kilmarnock)

Worth a re-call perhaps?
