Berti Vogts has named a 23 man squad for the international in Portugal later this month. Paul Dickov and Derek McInnes return to the squad, but there are no real surprises.
The match, in Braga on 20 November, is another opportunity for the coach to build on the successes against Iceland and Canada, and he will be hoping to maintain the winning formula.

Im a bit dissapointed with this squad, playing a team like portugal youre almost guaranteed a humping, i would have thought it would be used to blood some of the younger boys and give them some experience, what can the likes of Dickov and McInnes show us that they havent shown us before?
Even then I dont rate either too highly.

You'll forgive me, chaps, for bringing this up yet again but does it not strike you lot as obsenely depressing that Scottish football success is now measured by wins against Iceland and Canada?
*sigh*

I think he was talking relatively, after losing 5 on the bounce it would have been a confidence boost to beat san marino, and some good teams have been beaten in iceland in recent times.
What I took as positive from the canada game is that it looked like we had found as system and were moving forward as regards selecting players who want to play who can give something different and then he brings in a load of duffers again, I dont know anybody whos happy with that squad.

Steven Thompson out with an ankle injury.
Kevin Kyle likely to go into U-21s to replace injured McFadden & O'Connor.
Shame about losing Thopmson after his performances against Canada & Iceland, but he's suspended for the Iceland return match next March so it'll give Berti a chance to find another partner for Crawford. I fear it'll be Dickov but he's a small guy, as it Crawford, and Vogts likes a little and large partnership up front so who knows, especially with Kyle dropping out?

Scotland Under 18s went down 2-0 to Germany this morning, following on from their 1-0 defeat on Tuesday.
The Scots made the running in the first half of the friendly international in Barsinghausen, and Ross Wallace hit a post. However, with the Germans refreshed by several second half substitutes, the home country took the lead in 65 minutes through Podolski's long range shot, and made sure of victory ten minutes later with a header from Sahr.
In Tuesday's match, played before a crowd of 5,500 in Herzlake, the Germans achieved victory through a 72nd minute strike from Glasner.

What a shock, sicknote Ferguson has pulled out of Wednesday's match.
He still only has 13 caps from 4+ years of international football.

No great loss IMO.
Dickov is injured, I'm much happier about that, a decent striker might get a go now.

Cant find the other scoring times but a good result for Scotland. We were winning 2-3 in the last minute until Voigt scored from a free-kick at the death.

Ive never put that much faith in under-21 games, B games whatever, didnt we win a world or european championship at youth level something like 12 years ago?
Im sure we did, beating a portugal side with, to name but a few, Figo and Rui Costa in it.
The best you can hope for from them is maybe one or two young players earning a promotion to the full squad.

Scotland has arranged a friendly with New Zealand on May 27 as preparation for European qualifier against Germany in early June. Hopefully the game will be played at Easter Road, ;) It should be, there was a cracking atmosphere for the Canada game.

Venues for all of Scotland's home international matches in 2003, for the A, Under 21 and Future teams, have now been agreed by the Scottish FA.
The Safeway International Challenge match between Scotland and New Zealand will be at Tynecastle Park in Edinburgh, the only home match not to be played at Hampden Park this year.
However, fans around Scotland will be able to see the Future and Under 21 teams at their local venues. Inverness will host the Scotland Future Team's match against the Czech Republic in May, with other matches being played in Dundee, Aberdeen, Perth, Kilmarnock and Cumbernauld.

Any thoughts on the Scotland squad to be named on Tuesday? I hope Kenny Miller is included and Paul Dickov, not the most fashionable of strikers, but is in good form. Chris Iwelumo of Stoke has done well lately as well. There's a bit of a goalkeeping crisis with Douglas & Gallacher injured, Sullivan not 100% (and not having played first team football for about 4 months!). However, Hutchison and Matteo should return.
Scotland win!!!
