There are so many great ones I would like to hear about even more. Last night the wife was watching a food program and Rick Bayless was on, cruising around Mexico visiting authentic restaurants. The first one was one we had visited. I can't remember the name. It is about 200 meters south of the Bellas Artes, 300 meters east of Chinatown. Open 24 hours a day with traditional tortilla-making machines and open kitchen. You get a paper menu and you check the toppings. I didn't do so well at the time and I would have some trouble today unless I remembered to bring the dictionary!
My wife likes Cafe Tacuba, not the rock group but the old restaurant 500 meters from The Zocolo. Lovely old place but they have a lot of cream dishes. I don't care for the style, but some of the food is out of this world.
Fonda El Refugio in Zona Rosa is an old favorite. About 40 of the 155 Americans in the cheering section at the U.S. qualifier in Azteca ate there the night before the game. Mainly tourists at night but in the afternoon you see Mexican couples and businessmen. Beatrix is a local place in the Zona Rosa, not far from Fonda El Refugio, with no foreigners. Hottest salsa verde I have ver had.

The band is a lot better than the restaurant.

Feliz Navidad guys. RDL, if you get a chance, recommend some Toluca restaurants. I have never been to Toluca but it is close enought to Mexico and we may visit there in the next couple of years. Love that stadium in Toluca.

No, but I can't figure out why the VIPS chain does not expand into the U.S. VIPS is like a Mexican Denny's, bright family restaurants all over the place. Except VIPS has very good food for a chain and also serves beer!

I remember eating at VIPS in Spain. Is it Spanish owned or Mexican owned?

Vips is Mexican. It started in the 60s. I believe Walmart or Kmart have shares of it.

The best place to have tacos al Pastor is "El Tizoncito", specially the one in "Colonia Condesa", there you just lay near a "taquero" and the tacos will come literally flying. Man, this guys are artists. Some of them catch the pinneaple slice from behind their backs. And the tacos and salsas -mmmh. The cravings started again. Bugger!! And I just have fish and chips here in this island, but then again I can go to Old Trafford and see ManU ;)
