My wife would club me for spending too much, but I'd like to get a nice smooth trainer that doesn't make too much noise... but I'll take some noise if it saves me a bunch of money.
Anyway, have any recommendations?
Pros and cons would help... and if you know where to get it for a good price, that'd be awesome too.

I'm in this boat as well. Any help would be great.

Con of any trainer: Within 30 minutes, you will be pouring sweat and want to stick a bullet in your head out of boredom.
Can't help you with pro. My trainer is 15 years old. Rarely use it. Prefer spin classes at the Y when I can't get outside.

I will let you know in the next few weeks. I did get a Kinetic by Kurt trainer (with my REI dividend, a 20% coupon and a GC) in April, but have not really used it yet. As the weather just turned in the last couple of days, I will be putting the bike on it for the winter.

This is probably one of the "quiet" ones.

Naaaah. My exercise equipment is in the basement facing a 22 inch monitor where I watch movies and dvd tv shows. No boredom involved. The sweat is another story.

I picked up an Ascent trainer off of Craigslist a while back for fifty bucks and only use it on severely rainy days (haven't had many in Austin in god knows how long) or other inclement weather or just when life takes priority and thirty minutes is all I can spare.
As has already been stated, it can get boring pretty quick and you will sweat like a pig but a workout is a workout. About the only pro I can come up with is that it's not really as noisy as other trainers I've seen, it was cheap and some spin is better than no spin. The cons are pretty obvious in that the resistance is weak if you ride a lot and most importantly is that it just can't replicate a road ride.
