As the rest of his co-stars, actor James Doohan has found himself forever linked to the character he portrayed on the original STAR TREK television series and motion pictures, that of Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott. However, unlike Doohan's fellow TREK comrades, Doohan is the only original cast member that doesn't as yet have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And now Chris Doohan, James' son, is attempting to do something about it.

The younger Doohan is launching a campaign to raise the funds needed to place a new star on the Walk of Fame for his father. "Many years ago my father said that he thought it was very unusual that they make the honoree pay $15,000 for the honor of receiving a Star on the Walk of Fame," elaborates Chris Doohan. "In the past, many celebrities received their Stars through donations from fans, family or movie studios. I don't see Paramount flipping the bill."

Doohan is hoping that he can raise the $15,000 through the support of fans of STAR TREK. To achieve that goal he has launched a website located at www.scottysstar.com where fans can donate via PayPal or write a check. Doohan promises that any additional monies collected over the cost of the Star will be donated to the Motion Picture Hospital in Calabassas, CA. Additionally, anyone who donates over $500 will be invited to come to the ceremony as a personal guest of Mr. Doohan.

Trivia note:

James lost a middle finger early in life while on military duty. He managed to hide it from cameras in most episodes, but you can see it is missing in "The Trouble with Tribbles"

RIP Scotty. I have a lump in my heart today. Hope that your soul is boldly soaring among the stars as I write this.
