Mood in Mexico decidedly different toward El Tri
The last time Sven-Goran Eriksson was in the United States with the Mexico national team was September, for a friendly against Chile at the Los Angeles Coliseum. He charmed Mexican media by conducting a news conference in Spanish, slipping up only when someone asked him if he eats chiles and he gave an answer about the cuisine of Chile, the country.
Everyone laughed.
The mood was positively less jovial in Phoenix yesterday, the tension hanging ominously in the desert air, as El Tri prepared for tonight's friendly against Ecuador at Chase Field. It is the final tuneup before next week's 2010 World Cup qualifier at Honduras, and Mexico finds itself in the uncomfortable, unenviable and highly unusual situation of needing at least a tie to guarantee it will advance.

They're worrying about nothing. Mexico is through. There's no way Jamaica is gonna score 6 goals on Canada.
Not really surprise either. Creating pessimism is the biggest job for the press.

If Mexico had scored maximum points with a +1 million GD at this stage, the Mexican press would STILL be calling for someone's head.

3-0 Honduran win coupled with a 3-0 (or 4-0) Jamaica win sees Honduras and Jamaica through.
I do NOT, think this will happen, but it seems less impossible than a 6-0 Jamaica win.
Food for thought:
A. Jamaica is fielding a full side against a weakened European-less Canada.
B. Honduras scored 3 on Mexico last time they were there in 2001. And, whomever, saw that game knows it was more likely that the score were 4-1(+) at the end.
Again, I still believe Mexico and Honduras will overcome.

Yeah, but that was one of the weakest Mexican teams in recent times. On the other side, Honduras was at its best. Seriously, I still can't believe they didn't make the WC that time.
That 3-0 will always stand as one of the few times Honduras has completely dominated Mexico in a match. Mexico just look so uninspired that day. This time it won't be like that. I see a draw coming from that match.

Motivation. . . who knows ?
It's all about fitness; who has the looser legs to make quick runs. Tactical expertise usually has the upper hand, and right now it's hard to tell. Most likely there will be a draw at San Pedro Sula.

I think it will be a draw. And I believe it will also be a pretty boring game, with very few goal opportunities for both teams. Afterall, a tie benefits them both.
However, the mood in the stands will probably be awesome

No they wouldn't. You obviously don't know the Mexican press.

People tend to go to extremes. When we beat Brasil or Argentina we're the best, when we lose to a CONCACAF opponent we're the worst.

This is not the first nor the last time a mexican nt coach will get attacked like that or worse by mexican press. This may seem like news to people here but anybody who follows the Mexican side regularly knows what kind of mess the coach will go through as soon as a few games are lost.
Happened to Hugo, Lapuente, Mejia Baron, Ojitos Meza, Bora and more. Ask Hugo how it went for him after being eliminated from the Olympic games lol

Why do you guys keep bringing back Mexico beat Brazil. My friend we beat Brazil too and got 3rd place in Copa America as well you do not see us constantly putting it in everyone's face. Until one of our teams make it to World Cup Finals we really have not done crap.
