BUSINESS PEOPLE; RJR Nabisco Appoints New Vice Chairman

LEAD: RJR Nabisco Inc., which has made several shifts of its top executives since a 1985 merger, named a new vice chairman yesterday.
The new officer, Robert J. Carbonell, and three other executives promoted yesterday are all from the Nabisco side of the company. F. Ross Johnson, who headed Nabisco before RJR acquired it, is chief executive of the merged companies, RJR Nabisco, which is based in Atlanta. Under him, many former Nabisco executives have moved into key positions.

He is a native of El Salvador and received a doctorate degree from the University of El Salvador. He completed graduate studies in food biochemisty at Purdue and mathematical statistics at Columbia University.

R.J. Carbonell named president and CEO of Tetley USA
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 2, 1995--Leon R. Allen, chairman and CEO of The Tetley Group Limited, announced the appointment of Robert J. Carbonell as president and CEO of Tetley USA Inc., the Group's U.S. subsidiary.
Carbonell was previously president and CEO of Bionaire Inc., retired chairman and CEO of Del Monte Corp., retired vice chairman of RJR Nabisco Inc., and senior vice president of Group Executive of Standard Brands Inc.'s Consumer Products Group. He succeeds Henry F. McInerney, who elected to leave the company to pursue other interests.
"Bob Carbonell is eminently qualified to head our U.S. tea and coffee business," said Allen. "In addition to his broad and extensive business career in the food industry, he has had direct experience in all aspects of Standard Brands' previous tea and coffee businesses," he added. "I am spearheading their profitable market growth," said Carbonell.
The Tetley Group Limited was recently acquired from Allied Domecq in a management buyout led by Leon Allen and Roger Price of Karand Limited. Tetley(R) is the leading packaged tea brand in Great Britain. Tetley USA manufactures and markets grocery, food service, and private label packaged teas and ready-to-drink tea beverages under the Tetley(R) brand name, as well as a variety of premier coffee brands in niche specialty areas, including Bustelo(R), Martinson(R), Savarin(R), Medaglia d'Oro(R), Brown Gold(R), and El Pico(R).
