Seems like he had a patch of sour grapes and now he attacks the players at the club.

I dont know that he is right - he got a little carried away, but I think there is some truth to the fact that Ramos should not be the fall guy - or the berba fiasco.

But the fact remains that the team were in a rut and lacked the info, modivation, and confidence they needed to win.

I just hope the honeymoon lasts!

just read the link, and may i just say, skysports is utterly full of shit. i read yesterday the entire interview, and to say that they've edited it selectively is a huge understatement. furthermore, the suggest that he implied - let alone said - "the current squad only have themselves to blame" is just nonsense.

in what i read, the comments about the players was just a bit at the end, after he had initially put much of the blame at the feet of levy, then admitted to ramos' and his own culpability, as well. i can't remember where i saw it, but believe me, it wasn't just gus coming out and ripping the players. it was more a case of, "... and you know, when you look at the way some of the players are performing right now, you must concede that their efforts under ramos were miles off. and professionals shouldn't be excused from effort", or some such. and, really, i don't think that's arguable. bentley, for one, (and this is me speaking, here, not gus) was quite obviously not doing the work. and frankly, i'm not sure how modric went from being effortlessly pushed off the ball to being world class overnight.

now, that's not a defense of ramos, who'd gotten things very, very wrong. but it is a defense of gus's point, which was nothing more than an adendum to his post-mortem, and nothing like putting all the blame on the players for what went wrong.

it's nothing that we don't all know, of course, but the english press is just atrocious.

Its a real shame that Sky Sports would sink that low. Shame on them. Sorry pook. When I read it I thought it was BANG out of order. Can you post the entire interview if you can. Thanks.

Here's the appropriate extract from his interview with The Times on Saturday:

Lots of things went wrong and we all have to accept responsibility, starting from the chairman to the groundsmen. There were all sorts of problems, but the main one was that we lost 50 guaranteed goals from [Dimitar] Berbatov and [Robbie] Keane. [Daniel] Levy has decided to blame Berbatov, but I won't. From the middle of May everyone knew he was leaving, so why blame him?

I respect Levy's opinion, but disagree completely. Even before the start of pre-season he told us Berbatov was leaving, but he chose to wait. The difference between selling Berbatov on July 1 or August 31 was £6 million, maximum. I know football depends a lot on money, but sometimes you have to ask, 'how much is six points worth?' With one more striker I'm sure we'd have got more points and would still be at the club. Levy dealt with the problem his way and it was difficult for us to accept.

It's very sad to see the players talking in the press about Juande [Ramos]. They should be embarrassed, as they had the chance to talk on the pitch and they didn't do that. Juande trusted the players and expected that, as they're playing in the Premier League, they would be very professional and know everything about football, but unfortunately they don't. There are a few that do, but I would say half the team don't know much about football and you have to tell them everything.

When we played at Chelsea we spoke about football all the time, but it was different at Tottenham. Some of the players have things too easy. They have the best cars by the age of 21, whereas when I was playing we had to wait until we were 28 or 30. One of the players who is not even 20 recently bought a Ferrari. I couldn't believe it.

In terms of coaching, it was a little bit more enjoyable with Dennis [Wise]. It was a great job at Tottenham, but I wasn't as involved as I wanted to be. It's very frustrating, but I look at it the other way as well. In the Carling Cup final, when Juande took Chimbonda off and left Malbranque on as a left back I was thinking 'what's he doing?' but we won. You learn from good decisions and bad decisions.

Hmmm. Interesting.

I saw an interview with an ex-Arse player (Stewart Robson) during their recent slump in form, who was asked, "Do you think the younger players need older heads around them to help motivate them to play?"
He replied, "I never needed it. Playing for Arsenal was enough motivation."

I think thats the kind of spirit that Ramos was taking for granted would already be at Spurs. When there aren't big characters on the pitch, they need one in the dressing room, but Ramos wasn't it. Harry is.

I have a lot of repsect for Poyet and wish him all the best at wherever he goes.

The results speak for themselves. If the players needed reminding of their responsibilties, then Levy did the right thing in getting someone in who can do it.

Does anyone else think that Bale has a Ferrari now? I do as he is maybe the only one under that age who could make that kind of money to get one. That is quite disgusting.
