Since our season is done in both the Copa Sudamericana and the Apertura, I figured starting a new thread might get some attention. This thread is for only players you'd like too see play for River in 2009, not ones you don't want to see.
The one player I want to see return and play for River is Hernan Crespo. I know a lot of River fans area probably going to disagree and say he's a "muerto" and he only plays for the money, but I disagree. I think whoever the new coach is, should go after him, and after him hard. He's not in Mourinho's plans at Inter, he's still young(33), and River is where he started his career. His experience is invaluable and a player of his caliber I think is what this team is lacking.
The other player I'd like to see return and play for River is Roberto "El Raton" Ayala. I know he said he wanted to help Zaragoza with promotion and all, but that isn't going to be easy since the top 1-8 in the Second Divsion of Spain are separated by 5 points right now. Although he's 35, his veteran experience is what River's defense is sorely lacking.
So, there's two for now. I know VIPnerd mentioned that Aimar and D'Alessandro have good chances of returning, but I doubt it. Aimar signed with Benfica during the summer and Internacional of Brazil paid a nice sum for D'Alessandro.

Maxi Moralez is being considered as an option for January. I'd love to see him sport a River jersey. He's been doing great for Racing, and I actually see him with NT potential.
As for Crespo, it would be a dream come true, but like I told you in the other thread.. it is almost impossible (mainly due to his lack of interest in returning).
Other players? Not exactly sure who, but we need a strong, fast central defender. Cabral hasn't been cutting it lately, Nico Sanchez is out injured more often than not, Tuzzio is just... well.. disgusting, and Gerlo... :p. I'm not sure if Ayala would be the right choice, though (he still has a heavy price tag, and he just keeps on getting older). We might have to look into the inferiores a bit more. Maybe give Mussachio more opportunities? Who says he's not the next Demichelis, or even better?

If Moralez comes in that means we will probably sell Buonanotte...
EDIT;
And yes, give Musacchio more oportunities. Sure, what he has done wasnnt perfect, but the kid is still learning.

I would say it's NOT the time to use inferiores. They have been BURNED with Aguilar and it's really time to let them heal. I say buy a good central defender, Ayala would be nice, and team him up with Tuzzio and the best prospect from the Inferiores to gain experience.
Then go after "un 5 de calidad", who this could be I don't know but since Masche left the spot has been UNUSUALLY vacant. I'm sure that River can get someone from Racing, Estudiantes or Independiente to fill in this role. Maybe Claudio Yacob?
Lastly we need a "9", a classic finisher, someone who can push in the ball WITHOUT his head. Crespo is a good answer, he's a veteran, River in his blood but unfortunately his wife will have nothing of that. How about Julio Cruz? Maybe even for half a season, just to get the ball rolling in the meantime.
After you have inserted these seasoned veterans, then you can surround them with the players that are left over.

Surprised that Yacob is still not in Europe...

Tuzzio? No thanks. No where near River, please. I prefer Nico Sanchez, Cabral, Mussachio, and all the other CBs over Eduardo.

That would be a waste of money. I think Nicolas Domingo is a fantastic player with a great future, he just deserves to get more chances. Fabian Gimenez also did quite well when given a shot vs. Lanus. If anything, Ponzio is still available. We are actually quite overstocked in this position, so there really isn't a point in bringing a reinforcement there.

According to Ole, Messi recommended Julio Cruz to Barcelona, so there's a chance he'll move there in January. If top European teams like Barca are interested in him, why would he return to River?

Tuzzio alongside a seasoned veteran could work

All the recommendations I've made are for seasoned veterans so that the current players in those positions can get some relief and play to their fullest potential. Yes Ponzio is ok as is Augusto Fernandez but alongside a veteran they can and will learn what they need to take River to the next level.

Nothing is written in stone yet. River can go after several players in that position it's just a suggestion. I would prefer a veteran for now, to allow the inferiores the time necessary to develop a player.
Also this would take the heat off the players for a bit and allow them to regroup.

I want Agustin Julio - Colombia/Santa fe for the keeper or Villar of Paraguay/Valladoid,Esp (sub)
Bustos for right back :) - Colombia/Inter porto alegre... not good at attacking or defending but any free kick is a goal
Crespo ..... Inter
Juan Pablo Angel - NYRB
think River def needs a new good veteran keeper and to fix the defense

What'd I tell you? Apparently Real Madrid are going after him. Imagine, if a football powerhouse like RM is interested in acquiring Crespo, then there must be several "smaller" European teams that will try to snatch him in December. Hopefully he suddenly realizes that it's time to return to Argentina, but I highly doubt it.

I dont see Crespo coming anytime soon, maybe in 2 years and he will be what? 35-36 years old?
Players that I would like to see come to River is that kid from Argentinos Jrs, Hauche.Angeleri from Estudiantes,German Re from Newells and the uruguayen foward playing in Toluca Vicente Sanchez.
Maxi Moralez is a good player but I dont think he is a good fit for River.El Enano still has alot to prove and wouldnt like to see him go anywhere in the near future.
I still get pissed when I see D'Alessandro playing for Inter de Porto Alegre when he could be playing for River.F*ing dirigentes del orto.
I do like Vega in the gol more then I do Ojeda and hopefully he can get some confianza and be what River needs after Carrizo left.
Also hopefully el paragua Salcedo will wake up and be the player we all expect him to be.

Not a bad group of players Leo, although Vicente Sanchez currently plays in Germany for Schalke. But I don't think he's getting any playing time so that might be something River's upper management and new coach might want to look at. I do like Hauche from Argentinos Juniors and German Re from Newells, but I'll bet anything that Angeleri moves on to Europe in January. Imagine Hauche, Abreu, Sanchez, and Rios for next year's Copa Libertadores?? Not a bad group of delanteros. I'm excluding Falcao and Salcedo cause I imagine Falcao will be sold in January and I'm still not sure on Salcedo. When does his loan end?? Anyone know??

Salcedo arrived on loan for 18-months in exchange for $1,000,000. Therefore, he still has exactly 1 year left with River.

Another player I'd like to see return to play for River is Juan Pablo Angel who is currently playing in the MLS final. Though he's 33, he's ability to score is something we'll need in the Copa Libertadores. Wherever he's played, all he's done is score. Granted he had a rough start while playing for Aston Villa in England, but in the 2003-2004 season he scored 23 goals in 39 appearances which included the league and various cups.

Another player that I'd finally like to see get a chance to play for River in 2009 is Dario Conca. Why go after a player such as Gallardo when we have a younger and probably a more talented player out on loan?? I'm pretty sure his loan spell at Fluminense ended. Loco can you look into this??

Yeah, Conca's loan is finishing at the end of this month.
As a matter of fact, Ole published an article regarding this topic just the other day. They mentioned how Aguilar has placed a $2,800,000 price tag on Conca -- a price Fluminense cannot afford. Still, the fans consider him a key player and are even considering having a fundraiser to make him stay! They said that with the large fanbase Fluminense has, they should be able to help the team retain Dario. That tells you a lot about how well he did in Brazil!
Since we're on the topic of Argentines in Brazil, does anyone know how Rubens Sambueza has been doing for Flamengo so far?

Not sure how Sambu did at Flamengo Loco. You'd have to ask Mengao in the Brazil forum. I followed Conca cause he played for Flu.:D As for what I saw, I say we bring him back and give him a chance. The guy seems to have come into his own and has turned into a pretty good player.

Another player I'd like to see return to play for in 2009 is Osmar "El Malevo" Ferreyra. Let's see, Villagra or Ferreyra on the left side of the defense. I'd take Ferreyra in a second over Villagra. I don't know what the hell happened to Villagra in the Apertura, but he didn't impress as much as he did in the Clausura. I think Ferreyra is playing in Ukraine for some small club. Don't know why he hasn't been mentioned.:(

Well Sao Paulo have been expressing an interest in Conca to reinforce their Copa Libertadores 2009 squad, so I doubt we will ever see him in a River jersey again. :(
