Was camping this weekend so missed Friday's match. Stayed off the smartphone all weekend to commune with nature and then watched the game today.
Damn shame 1860 lost. This is the FIFTH time this season where the opponent has practically stolen points due to lucky "Sonntagschuss" shots or brief defensive lapses (the others being Oberhausen, Pauli, Ingolstadt and Ahlen). Honestly, we have left more points on the table than I can ever remember.
1860 dominated the game and were VERY unlucky not to be up 3-0 20 mins into the match. However, after that they lost some steam and seemed more frustrated than dangerous. Danny Baier (ex-Loewe) scored the game winner for the Bunnies. Ironically, he is not known as a goal scorer but looked good all night. In a class act he did not celebrate his goal out of respect for 1860, and yet some 1860 saw fit to whistle him any chance they got. It's not his fault he left due to a clause in his contract allowing him to leave 1860 if we were not promoted 2 years ago. Hell, ANYONE would have left 1860 at that point.
At any rate, Kicker ratings and my thoughts below:
Tschauner (3): Not really called upon to do anything. Was left without any choice on the goal. Solid game.
Thorandt (3,5): Good match from him.
Ghvinianidze (3,5): Also a good match.
Berhalter (4): Harsh score given the goal was not his fault.
T. Hoffmann (4): Played well outside and shut down the flanks again.
S. Bender (4): Had a hard match and was hard fouled by De Costa but came back.
Ledgerwood (4,5): Nick should have marked Baier better. Might have save the goal, but it was a good combo from Augburg to score well against the run of play.
Johnson (4,5): Was not himself but not this bad.
Holebas (4): Just not effective when he is marked. Better int he open field.
Gebhart (3,5): Boy was hacked again all night. He needs to stay on his feet more and not go down like a cheap whore everytime he is hacked. The refs need to do more to protect him, but that's football and talented people will get hacked. Take a page from Theirry Henry and bulk up, get speed and stay on your feet.
Lauth (3): Decent game but just a few steps too late at times.

I saw them plenty. I lived in Philadelphia, but luckily for me, one of my cousins with a job and a car was interested too and he and I drove up to Giants Stadium quite often to see the Cosmos play.
But I've now seen more of 1860 at the Allianz Arena! LOL!! :D
Ugh. I hated the Cosmos... almost as much as I hate Bayern. But I guess you had to live near NYC to appreciate them.
Fortunate for me I had a crazy Yugoslav soccer coach in high school who was a huge ambassador for soccer. He took us to Chicago Sting games (yes even vs. the hated Cosmos) and showed us World Cup films, etc.
The Chicago Sting of the NASL were my first favorite team, and I guess I was predisposed to German football due to their star players Karl-Heinz Granitza and Arno Steffenhagen.

Or appreciate the game played at its best.......

I can get with that. Luckily for me I had my cousin and Public Television to see "Soccer Made In Germany."

I vaguely remember the Philadelphia Atoms. They were one of the NASL's best teams before the Cosmos started getting all the Warner Brothers money. Of course, I was too young to know all of that shit then. That and I didn't follow them all that much.
I was about the Phillies, Sixers, Flyers and Eagles.
I think I was about nine or ten when the Atoms folded, but it was their last year that my cousin went to Giants Stadium just about every time the Cosmos had a game and he started to take me along.
I got to see most of Pele's final season, but we couldn't get tickets for his farewell match with the Brazilian National Team. I had to watch that on TV.

Sven Bender interview:
http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2008/news_2008-11-17_interview_svenbender.php
Small bit of the interview is rehashed on the Bundesliga site in English:

I just wish that Sven would tell the interviewer to "bite his shiny metal a**".:)

Yeah, clearly the interviewer was thinking of Japanese twins from Austin Powers rather than interviewing an up and coming footballer.

Seriously, I think Sven has really come into his own now that Lars is off the pitch. He has been SOOOOO over shadowed in the past. Good to see him getting some print time. Albeit with an ass of an interviewer.

All other internationals were either injured or not called up at the club's request.

The bottom of this article (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/vereine/artikel/500811) says Kurz banned Ku-SUCK-ovic to the amateur team for disciplinary reasons.
I believe it also says Kurz made the offensive players train on a normal day off to help push them to break their current 290 minute scoring drought.
I believe the beginning of the article says 1860 lost 3M Euros this calendar year, but the club leadership was re-elected by a huge majority at the club's general membership meeting this past weekend.
Kicker speculates that they will be challenged to find new investors to knock down the losses or they might be forced to sell Timo Gebhardt to help offset the losses.
I didn't buy it, but the front of one of the Munich papers today asked the question of 1860 leaving the Allianz Arena.
I suppose that might pop up again somewhere else if it is a truly viable option. :o

Kusuckovic mad a comment something to the effect that he should not be made to practice since he has had little input in the current scoring drought. Smart move on his part, huh?

The loss can be made up in a few ways, not the least of which is saving on Goektan's salary, as well as DFB Cup revenues. Overall budget and balance to get our license re-issued is still not a problem...or so says Reuter.
Keeping Timo seems less in the cards more for his very good performances and less on financial grounds. His contact is through 2010, so it is very, very unlikely (unless we get promoted) that we will keep him. Like ANY other player with a cntract up in 2010, the window to get money for them is either this January OR this summer. After that they walk 1860 is not likely to let him go free with so much interest in him now. Realistically, unless 1860 get promoted he is gone.
Kicker speculates that they will be challenged to find new investors to knock down the losses or they might be forced to sell Timo Gebhardt to help offset the losses.
Off thing is they have brought in plety of small sponsors. Rumor is Trenkwalder is just not doing it for 1860. The contract with them is up in June and I would expect 1860 to find a new shirt sponsor by then.

You and I both know that is bollocks. Where would they go? The Gruenwalder was shut down this weekend due to poor weather. 1860 cannot afford to play there and lose gate receipts.
On another note, for tonight's game in Rostock below is the formation. Benny S is back and Schaeffler is healthy again. Should be a good match. I will be in my home office, Gluehwein in hand to watch the match.

Well sometimes the ball rolls for you...I think this was make up for having outplayed the last two teams we played only to lose. Hansa outlplayed 1860 the whole game except for the first 15 mins. 1860 was lucky to pull 1 pt. To take 3 was a steal. But we had that agaisnt us in St.Pauli, so this time it happened in our favor.
Tschauner was on fire today and kept 1860 in the game. Berhalter was playing great. Beda successfully converted oxygen to carbon dioxide for 90 mins...other than that he did zip. In fact, he did not complete a pass all night!!!!
I'll take it. Only 24 more points to avoid relegation.:D

Agree on all but your Beda comment. As I recall, he did at least make a nice block of a pass in the first half that would have surely been a Rostock goal.

He has five goals to this point.
