82nd minute: Olic, obviously feeling like it is his night, moves into the 1860 area and tries to get past Gregg using a Cristiano Ronaldo impression.
Gregg does his John Terry impression, putting his shoulder into Olic and knocking Olic on his ass.
The ball goes out for the Sechzig goal kick. :D
And as I type that, in the 84th minute, Tschauner can't control a rebound from a Trochowski long shot and Olic beats Gregg to the rebound to complete his hat-trick.
I still stand by what I said. If 1860 shows this kind of fight in the 2. Liga, it will be a good second half of the season.
And as I type that, Bierofka pulls one back for 1860.
Holebas puts in a cross from the left wing, HSV defender Bastian Reinhardt tries to block it with a slide, but instead deflects it into the middle where Bierofka slams it home.
Good. They deserved a goal tonight.

Watched the whole match. Below are my thoughts:
1-0 goals was BS and should never have happened. Referee error but Tschauner really had his head up his ass. Picture a clearing kick from the six straight to Berhalter 30m away with two attackers around. Pure stupidity. Kurz should have him ONLY clear the ball upfield from now on.
2-0 was an easy shot for Tschauner to stop. Nice through ball and I believe Mate G. would have been there to shut it down...Beda was too flat. But well played goal.
3-0 was a nice play and clearly 1860 just shut down.
3-1 was a nice job as Keith said from Holebas and Biero.
All in all I would have fancied our chances better had the 1-0 not happened. But HSV played a good game, as did 1860. I would agree that if 1860 comes out like this in the rueckrunde we should show well.

mums the word.
For something never posted it worked quite well. Too bad it was a conference and they switched to Jena too often, but I guess you can't have it all.....
Nice to see (parts) of the Löwen live. Not sure if Tschauner is better or worse as Varkevisser, oh dear.

Agree that Tschauner screwed up and that Kurz should have him clear the ball upfield from now on.
No more comments on the rest.

I was wondering how you'd find some way to criticize Beda last night! LOL!!

Gregg got beaten by an international class striker. There's a reason Olic is going to be playing for Bayern next season........

As stated, with their performance, 1860 deserved a goal.

I don't think it made a major difference. Hell, if anything, '60 played harder after that.
But HSV played a good game, as did 1860. I would agree that if 1860 comes out like this in the rueckrunde we should show well.
I was proud of 1860. After that first goal, they did not put their heads down and take a beating although they could have. 1860 fought hard and fought well. I thought 1860 simply was beaten by a better team and to a certain extent, let down by their goalkeeper.
I only hope 1860 shows that kind of fight in the league for the rest of the season.
1860 players I was particularly impressed with last night were Aigner, Bierofka and the Benders. Oh and until Olic beat him for the third goal, Gregg too.
But again, that's why Olic will be playing for Bayern next season...... :o

Yeah I don't blame Gregg. The shot was taken, Tschauner did well to parry it. What clearly seperated 1860 and HSV on that play was that top-class players, especially strikers and defnders, react when the ball is kicked. Olic did, Berhalter did not. Split-second reaction gave Olic the step he needed to score. World-class defenders react in the same way Olic did which is why they are dman hard to score on. Perhaps its age or not. Perhaps its just calibre. But Footy is right, in either case you have a team in HSV who is challenging for the BL crown. Losing 3-1 to a top form team - especially when many of our first choice players are just now returning to action after months off - is nothing to hand your head on.
I look forward to the rueckrunde with anticipation.

Some good news on the young player (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2008/news_2009-01-28_u23_vorbereitung.php) fronts:
1860 picked up Mathias Fetsch (http://www.fussballdaten.de/spieler/fetschmathias/) who is a U19/20 international for Germany. A good center striker and someone 1860 believes can help the U23 team.
Also picked up was Emanuel Biancucchi (http://www.fussballdaten.de/spieler/biancucciemanuel/). If the name does not sound familiar I will be you know his cousin.....some dude named Lionel Messi. Well, as you can tell, Signore Bancucchi does not have a very Argie name about him. He has been practicing with 1860 all year but has not be able to play. Long story short, some Italian grandparents have been found which allows him to now get an Italian passport and play for 1860. He is being called the Argie Gebhart.:D

There is a Bild article here (http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussball/zweite-liga/2008/12/03/emanuel-biancucchi/erster-neuzugang-der-loewen.html), englisch translation here (http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bild.de%2FBILD%2Fsport%2Ffussball%2Fzweite-liga%2F2008%2F12%2F03%2Femanuel-biancucchi%2Ferster-neuzugang-der-loewen.html&sl=de&tl=en&history_state0=). Trainer Wolf speaks spanish and has been helping the kid, who speaks zero German. Wolf says, "That's okay, he perfers to speak with the ball anyway." He is being heralded as a "classic #10" and they want to get him match fit ASAP so they can get him on the pro team fast. He has a three year contract until 2011.

You have got to love Marco Kurz (http://www.eyep.tv/index.php?id=75&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=2451&cHash=c028643630) in front of the camera. He is being interviewed about the loss and is asked about the...
Offsides call, to which he replies that it is aggrevating, but things like that happen. It should have been seen but on the other hand 1860 put themselves in that situation. He called it a small issue overall for him.
Tschauner's play and patzers, to which he replied the "the kid had a bad day, but those happen". The interviewer inferred there was a "discussion" with Tschauner and Kurz simply said "what discussion? we spoke about how to strengthen his play but there is no GK issue." Boom....end of speculation.
Tschauner interview (http://www.eyep.tv/index.php?id=75&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=2452&cHash=212c9fa0fe). Takes blame for the first goal. Says he needs to cut down on the individual failures, as does the team, to have success in the next round.
Summary report (http://www.eyep.tv/index.php?id=75&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=2459&cHash=a71ad41b55). Basically says 1860 is upset at having lost but is rpeparing for the next round. Really lays it on Tschauner for 2 of 3 goals, but does mention he has been the steadiest of the players in the vorrunde.

Reports say that Mr. Teeth feels alienated due to his inability to speak German and eventually wants to play in Spain. 1860 is doing everything they can to make this kid comfortable and to see how well he fits in. Here's to hoping he actually shines like Gebhart did.

1860 says 20,000 seats have been sold for the home game Sunday against Freiburg. Not a bad stat given they will likely have 4-6k worth of walk-ups. Link to stats of other seasons' first games of the rueckrunde (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2008/news_2009-01-28_statistik_freiburg.php).
Gebhart picked up a knick in training in VfB and is out for two weeks.:(
Kind of a dumb article in Kicker Online (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/startseite/artikel/503658/) about Reuter "remaining as manager" of 1860....like there was any question. Not like there was a vote or action or anything. I doubt anyone was going to fire him for losing at HSV against one of the strongest teams in the BL, for Christ's Sake!
A few good interviews on eyeptv.de (http://www.eyep.tv/index.php?id=624) from Kurz and Bierofka, as well as a photo gallery of pics from the training before the SCF match.

Too bad for VfB. Looking at their midfield play against Bayern, they could use him!

One thing I missed in the Kurz interview was a statement by the Club press officer that Kusuckovic is in Grenoble on an "untersuchung", which can translate into a few things but the meaning here is medical examine as he has already been there for a test training for 10 days plus. After the exam we will likely hear he is sold and we will get some $$$ in the door. I would expect somewhere south of $100k for him. We paid 70k for him but he has not produced, so do not expect much $$ from the Frenchies for him. Grenoble is in 12th place in the French first division.

Damn, why don't they just take the train? Faster and easier than car to be certain.

I feel for the kid. I don't want him to end up like Lauth, Goerlitz, Adler and so many others young, promising kids we have had in the past.

I thought you might like that. I think given the $$$ we have and how well he handles himself, the club knows damn well we would be idiots to get rid of him.
Edit: The Kurz interview is classic. If you have seen any of them all season the man has simply said "we are taking each game one at a time". And yet the press every conference try to get him to talk about what "might happen". Kurz simply has a few principles:
One game at a time
No talk about club finances
No talk about his future
No talk about the table and "what ifs"
No talk about what other clubs might do
Sounds like Nuke Laloosh.:D

Lin-up for the game Sunday and my comments....
Appears both Benders will start which is nice to see.
Beda still in central defense which worries me. Would rather see Ghvinianidze there, so he must still not be at 100%.
Ledgerwood is on the bench which means he is fit again. Also nice to see.
I expect to see Pourie on the pitch towards the end if we have not scored or if game is close.
1860: 12 Tschauner - 16 Thorandt, 6 Beda, 5 Berhalter, 33 Johnson - 17 S. Bender, 22 L. Bender - 15 Aigner, 7 Bierofka - 11 Lauth, 10 Rösler.
Bench: 1 Hofmann (Tor) - 4 Hoffmann, 8 D. Schwarz, 13 Jungwirth, 14 Holebas, 18 Pourie, 19 Ghvinianidze, 20 Burkhard, 25 Ledgerwood, 26 Baumgartlinger, 27 Schäffler.
Walking Wounded: 9 Di Salvo (Sehnenentzündung am Knie), 21 Schroth (Aufbautraining), 23 B. Schwarz (Aufbautraining), 29 Krauss (3. TW).
