Oh, the rough life of a footballer at a broke club.

Especially so for a "lazy Ami". :D

Ok, let me get this straight, the club is broke, but we got Sascha Rösler back and also for the first time in seemingly forever, actually loaned a decent young player at the Winter break?!?

Wow, maybe there's some hope for the Rückrunde after all... hopefully they don't tank the first 6-7 matches, as usual.

Hey Loewenboy, it looks like you have a 60er heading your way.

That rock!!!! I hated to see him leave 1860 as I think he had real talent in the back. The knock on him was that they expected someone with his skill-level to much younger. I guess they thought at 23 he was too old and not as skilled as the other guys his age (or younger).

FCD can really use a good defenseman. Have been VERY disappointed in the guys they have now.

Actually was going to use the kids as an ice breaker and have them wear their 1860 jersey's to the team's pre-season autograph sessions. I am sure they are the ONLY kids in TX who: 1) have 1860 kits and 2) know that Purdy played with the U23 team.

Played last night in beautiful Los Christianos on Tenerife. Game went 1-0 to 1860 who scored in the 74th against what is a lesser RL side. Line-ups below. A few good things from this match:

Schaeffler scored, which, as any striker (even a striker like Bill Gates...that's for you Footy) would know, is a HUGE monkey off his back since he has not netted since joining the pro team.
Torben's ankle injury was not so bad that he could not run 45 mins.
Both DiValso and Ledgerwood did not play due to tendinitis in their knees. Mate Ghvinianidze had a "muscle problem". Schroth and Benny S. were in "aufbautraining", which leads me to believe that Benny will be out until mid February or a bit later....though no one is saying anything at this point. He rushed back in December only to go out again. They will likely give him time this spring to recover fully. Schroth, in my opinion, will never be back on the pitch.
The second half team was mostly scrubs and yet, they played very well together by all accounts.
God I hope using Beda at central defense was just a brain fart from Kurz and won't happen for real.
Formation was a bit different from the fall. Look like he is putting 6 back for defense and allow a full 4 to bang on the door. Hope someone is controlling midfield.
First Half:
Tschauner

Thorandt, Beda, Berhalter, Johnson

S. Bender, L. Bender,

Aigner, Bierofka

Rösler, Lauth

Second Half:
Hofmann

Burkhard, Jungwirth, Hoffmann, Johnson

D. Schwarz, Holebas,

Baumgartlinger, Bierofka

Schaeffler, Pourie

...to Tenerife for the winter training break. Given the cost of the hotel it would be worth it. They have on the last night a "fan appreciaion night (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2008/news_2009-01-15_tl_fanabend.php)" where you get to drink with the players until the beer runs out. That looks like fun....though there are a few pics of VERY drunk fans and players wishing they were in the spa instead.

LMAO at the Gates line! :D

However, as far as Schaeffler "getting the monkey off his back", I tell myself the same thing every time Nelson Valdez scores a goal.

And still, that monkey is very deeply entrenched in young Mr. Valdez' back.

When Schaeffler nets a few 2nd Bundesliga goals, then I think then "the monkey" might actually come off his back.

Until then, they still have to give him extra-large jerseys so that monkey on his back isn't so prominent...... ;)

Agree. But as you know, psychologically, netting ANYTHING for a striker is like getting laid by an ugly chick on a Friday night. Does it mean the drought is over? Naw. But it gives him confidence to hit on better looking chicks.

Again, I thought the same shit when it came to Valdez. No luck yet and he looks about as confident in front of the net as the school geek in the girls' locker room.

Talk to me when he hits a couple in the Bundesliga. Goals scored in Spanish practice matches don't mean diddly-squat from where I sit.

Is Benny Lauth still the first line of defence of the opposition team, or has he (finally?!?) found his scoring boots again?

I expected more than his current tally of six goals, but he's working his ass off I think more will come from him.

Agreed. For what he COULD be he should net at least 13 or more a season with another 8 assists. Problem has been getting him the ball. Should be interesting to see what happens. I do not expect Roessler to sit on the bench. I think he and Lauth are the new starters, with Schaeffler coming in as Joker if no one has scored by the 60th min.
