View Full Version : The New DC United Tagline Poll

First, given yesterday's game I thought some might want to re-open nominations. If so then please post your suggestion below. If there is a lot of write-in support we'll scrap this poll and start fresh.
Second, there are some passionate and well reasoned calls to keep our current tagline in the old thread. They are worth considering and can be found here: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7365
Because of calls like the ones above we should probably be a bit careful about all this. Changing the tagline should be a pretty light-hearted decision but for some (if not many) our old tagline is no longer a light hearted phrase.
That said, onto the choices ...
I think these were all seconded but if I messed up let me know.
The last one I am including in the poll because it was seconded but I know that Jesse will never allow it to be used as a tagline. He's nixed other similar tagline proposals on other MLS team boards. The second to last one might not work for similar reasons. But, whatever, they were seconded so vote away ...
Lastly, my sense is that we should only change the tagline if there is a very clear majority (not just a plurality) in favor of the change. So let's see what happens. If we need a run-off then we'll have one.
Proposed Taglines
"More posts than your team's board."
"DC United -- More Qs than Youse!"
"Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate." ("Abandon every hope, you who enter here." Tagline would be in the original Italian.)
"United we stand."
"Letting you lot catch up to our successes"
"At least we're not in Jersey."
"Tearing the MetroDonkeys a new one!"

My write-in vote is for Anthony Williams.

Like the black uniforms, the current tag line is a classic.
(and even if we were going to change it, let's not do so right at the 9/11 anniversary)

"United we stand" is a classic!
But, I think for the next month "Tearing the Metrodonkeys a new one!" would be much more appropriate. Heck we even have Ben Olsen on the field to back up his quote! :D
Then when DC United makes the playoffs, we can switch back to "United we Stand"! :)

I love the Italian quote from the Inferno, because right now it applies to us as fans, and someday soon it will once again apply to the opponent.

This is the way to go!!! Let the Donkeys know we are coming after them.

I really like the sentiment of
"Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate."
But I just don't see DC United as a team that uses a Italian/Latin phrase. DC is THE American club team. I say stick with the old line.

As the person who came up with the "tearing Metrodonkey's a new one", I request everyone vote for "Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate" because it kicks much ass.

I think I suggested this in a previous thread. Did you really suggest this before I did?

Not that it really matters, I just thought I had an original idea for once......

I believe that there is a majority in favor of change (74% at the time of this post). I believe we should take the top four usable choices and move to vote again on the finalists.

I think the BigSoccer mods agree with you and wouldn't let it be our tagline.

Actually you got it from Ben Olsen who got it from me. I asked in him in some on line question thing (MLSnet or Washingtonpost.com can't remeber which) if he was looking forward to tearing the metrodonkeys a new one, and he said basically "yeah I'm interested in tearing the metrodonkeys a new one". So there you go. Just for the record.

I just meant suggesting it as a tag line. I wasn't trying to claim credit for the phrase itself. Certainly you don't think I am an idiot plagarist, do you?

I misunderstood. My bad. I was just trying to protect my intellectual property. I'm planning on selling t-shirts. And a signature line of guacamole.

From the San Jose thread...

Are you giving out free samples of the guacamole? Can you bring some to the Foggy Bottom stand? ;)

pps-But this is the Metrodonkeys we are talking about!
