This article seems to indicate that Penant was involved but it's not clear how involved:

All you Pennant apologists can stop lobbying for him, now. There's no way back.
I know, I know, innocent until proven guilty and all that, but he keeps putting himself in bad situations, and they can't all be coincidence or wrong place/wrong time. And, unfortunately for him, he's just not that good to make people want to pull strings and cover up for his pathetic behavior.
Just curious - why does this stuff nearly always involve young English players?

To be fair about it, the BBC site says Pennant's been released without charge:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/3281477.stm
Still, it doesn't change my basic point: The guy has bad judgement, makes bad choices, and hangs out with the wrong crowd.

Leeds can keep him. Give us 4.5 as the transfer fee and we'll be good to go come January.

HOW DEM AVS DOIN BUDDY!!! HAHHAHA In reverse order:
-Uh, pretty good, actually. I guess you haven't been paying attention - only four teams have more points than the Avs:

-I guess I wasn't clear enough. In England, with its mix of players from different countries, it seems the real trouble, the criminal trouble, is mostly caused by the English players. This despite the fact that less than half the players in the Premier League are English. Still with me, Phishy?

one could argue that it's because they are english in england. i doubt if they were in another country they would feel so free to cause trouble.

So what you're saying is that he's a typical 20 year-old? That bastard!

I don't quite think so... His age and his football prowess are no excuse for his actions. What God gave him in footballing talent, he seems to have taken away in the brain department.

Wrong crowd? He is on loan to Leeds United. Of course he's hanging out with the wrong crowd. There is something foul at Leeds and young players make a lot of bad choices - from Bowyer to Woodgate to Mills to Smith - Leeds United seems to attract perpetrators of deplorable conduct and then perpetuates that type of conduct.
I hope for Pennant's sake that he has been nabbed in error and that he's not involved.

I think it's about time somebody from Arsenal, whether it's Arsene, Pat Rice, or somebody else, to sit down with Jermaine and talk with him about making better choices. They need to remind him that he's a football player first and foremost, and that the consequences of his actions increase tenfold because he's in the spotlight. I think it's also time to let him know that he's run out of chances with this club and that he'll be gone if he screws up one more time. This team can't have these kinds of distractions and expect to win trophies.

P I don't know how many of you in the UK know of him, but Pennant reminds me of Kellen Winslow (TE for University of Miami). His attitude sucks but he can play football. So how much do you put up with before you say "enough is enough?"

I was under the impression that he had already received this "talk" -- after he was sent home from whichever U-21 tournament he was sent home from. He claimed at the time that he was going to watch his step off the field and concentrate on his football career. Obviously, we don't know the facts behind what's going on now, but I'm in agreement with those who say his is a loan that we may never want repaid.

No, I'm saying that the typical 20 year-old has bad judgement, makes bad decisions and hangs out with the wrong crowd. I thought I made that clear with the section that I quoted; if not, I apologise.

The "story" is Pennant drove Morris to the location where the alleged rape happened. He was in the car when the incident occured and it is unclear as to whether he knew any wrong-doing had occured.
My guess is Morris told him he was going upstairs to have "coffee" and he should wait for him, then the alleged incident occured at this location and then Pennant waited for Morris to come down and drove him home unaware that his team-mate had supposedly "raped" the woman in question, thinking they had rather had consentual sex.

IF (notice capitalisation) this is a follow-on from the business Jody Morris got himself involved in a couple months back - then Pennant was driving, sober, before anything unpleasant happened.
However, he really needs to sort his attitude out. He's got talent. Unfortunately, he appears to think that means he doesn't have to make any effort, and that he can act the Big Charlie. Which would make him an Anglo-Saxon word beginning in "C".
BTW, OPArsenal - seem to remember seeing that on Arseblog recently?
edit: i-o-ray-p got in while I was typing. Conlcusions draw own your.

Unless you've read something that I haven't seen yet, you're jumping to conclusions. From what I know, he was questioned and released. From that, you have no idea of his level of involvement in the rape. Let's find out the facts before we crucify the guy.
