Hello folks
I'm not a Spurs fan but I'll be taking my dad there to watch the scum game on 13th December. Anyone got any tips for a first time visitor to the lane - like the best way to get to the ground (from central London), places to grab a drink before the match, places to have a bite to eat before (or during) the game, or any other random stuff.
Thanks in advance

The closet tube station is seven sisters which is on the Victoria line, it's about a 20min walk from there up the high road, theres a few pubs in and around the ground to drink which will be occupied by home supporters, or you could have a drink or something to eat in central london since there are loads of resturants and bars around.
Hope that helps.

*Scum fan advising*
To get to White Hart Lane from Central London, alighting at Seven Sisters on the Victoria line is your best bet and then walking up the hill to the stadium (it's a 10-15 minute walk). Getting on the First Capital Connect train from London Liverpool Street or Seven Sisters overground to White Hart Lane will put you within two minutes walk of the ground but the trains are infrequent and busy.
You can also get a bus from Seven Sisters to the ground, among other routes the 279 drops you right outside the ground.

You get to the Bricklayers Arms or the Bill Nicholson, and you'll be ok in terms of drinking. These guys already covered the transportation.

i don't know if you've got tickets sorted yet, but if not, consider where you're going to sit. the park lane stand has the best atmosphere, but obviously views from either end will give less perspective when the game's at the far end. the east stand has two large supporting poles that can obstruct views a bit, but it will have better atmosphere than the west stand, which has the best views, but features primarily rich* lardarses who will spend most of the match sitting on their hands. if you want to do much singing (and you do), you'll not want the west stand, as you'll be on your own.
i tend to opt for the park lane upper, which has a better view than the lower. these are also the cheapest (or, more accurately, least expensive). when not in the park lane, i'll do the east stand upper, toward either end (around the '20 yard line'), where only one post will come into view, and that being around midfield, where it is sure not to obstruct a goal. never done the paxton, but, then, why would i? i've done the west stand only once, and will not again.
oh, and as it's the arse, the mounted police presence will be significant. so when you're leaving the stadium, packed in amongst the herd, keep your eyes open that you don't step in horse shit. not that it's ever happened to me, mind.
*they must be, to afford the outrageous ticket prices.

best place to eat is a cafe (forget the name) on white hart lane itself where you can eat a big old greasy fry up and talk spurs with your fellow yids.

Thanks for all the replies so far folks.
Sorry for the misleading info in my post - when I said the "scum" I meant Man Utd - forgot this was the Spurs board :)
Anyway - already have tickets in the upper East stand - towards the north end.
Tube advice useful. As for drinks I think it might be an idea just to have a few pre-match jars in some sports bar in the centre of London whilst watching some of the early games or some racing.
What about grub in the ground - is the Lane famous for any of its half-time offerings ??

my mistake. i even looked at that and thought "i didn't think we had them in december", but was too lazy to check (and too thick to put two and two together, apparently).
also didn't take the fact that you're not spurs into account when i presumed you'd be singing. but y'know what? do it, anyway. when you hear "we're the shelf side, we're the shelf side, we're the shelf side - tottenham!", that's your cue.
