Having a heart throb is good for business. I've been to the far east and the school girls go crazy for Beckham and Owen. You wouldn't realise how many kits Man Utd sells over there! It helps our profile. The more we are recognised the more sponsors will have to pay to get on our shirt. The more bargaining power we have with Nike and others. It can't hurt, it can only help.
Why do you think Real Madrid are also after Owen? They didn't need Beckham and they certainly don't need Owen. They have the best club (well 2nd best to us on our best day) and now they want the global visibility so they are collecting icons like Beckham and Ronaldo. Man Utd isn't called Merchandes Utd for nothing.
