its starts tonite. australia should dominate. lots of contraversy with Bichel being dropped for the final series "Maybe there are double standards". as someone said on another cricket board -Say goodbye to your career Andy, can't have you highlighting the shady nature of selection in this country.
other news, ICC wants a world vs australia b/c apparently no single country can beat them

The "Champs v the World" concept is being pushed by South Africa - there is a good chance that as at the nominated date they will be the top ranked team.

ozzies win, indian middle order is pathetic and i dont evn want to start with the openers.
their excuse - tiredness.
the aussies must be tired too?
looking forward to the pak - india test matches. should be fun.
I think India have requested the PCB to delay the test matches due to their "tiredness".
WHY THE *#*#*#*# IS THAT MURALI KARTHIK on the team? he sucks ass. should have been replaced with ajit agarkar.

Is there any danger of getting sunburn during the night games or are the aussies sad enough to believe that the zinc cream is somehow fashionable???
andrew symonds had zinc cream on his lips when the aussies were fielding at night .
he literally looked like a clown . Sinner,
The second innings of a day/night match actually starts at 6:30 pm and with daylight savings in summer that makes it 5:30pm normally. If you've ever been to AUS, you'd know that the sun will still burn you to a crisp at that time. Accumulated UV exposure (over the years these guys are in the field) will also cause you some grief with skin cancers (melanoma's). Hence they leave it on, if they are fielding, for the second innings. There's no time out of play to actually clean it off during the 3.5 hours allocated for each innings.

Tuesday 10th February, 2004
The day where the greatest leg-spinner in the history of the game, Shane Warne, makes his comeback to cricket, playing in a second XI game for Victoria at the Junction Oval.
I would imagine it wont be long before Warney is back in the Aussie side, spinning his magic once again. :)

Unfortunately, to paraphrase Warney himself:- "couldn't bat (11 runs) and couldn't bowl (rain)".
Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Shane Warne will do just fine, and come Friday when the selectors name the squad to tour Sri Lanka, Warne's name will be on the list, and thank goodness for that. :)
Warne made 11 runs yesterday and took a catch, but play was cut short due to rain. The weather doesn't look too good this morning here in Melbourne, but it's supposed to clear up this afternoon so lets hope Warne can bowl well.

South Africa 226 for 5 (Smith 72) beat New Zealand 225 for 8 (Styris 60, Cairns 58) by five wickets
South Africa are now one up in the six-match series, and have beaten New Zealand in 15 of their last 19 encounters. It can mean only one thing. If Fleming was motivated to improve the record before this match began, then he will be even more so now.

according to the bulls site-
Sunday's Final against the Warriors will be a day match, with play starting at 9am and gates opening at 8am.
sunds like it will be a full day of boozing and cricket, damn, wish i could be there.

Vaas bowls Sri Lanka to one-run win
http://aus.cricinfo.com/perl/picture.cgi/050228/inline
....Needing just eight to win from the last six balls with five wickets in hand, Australia looked set for victory, but Vaas conceded only six runs to level the series at 1-1.
now this is just bizarre, ninemsn, reports this from the game-
The match almost hinged on the unusual decision of umpire Peter Manuel to change his decision after giving out Andrew Symonds leg before wicket to Kumar Dharmasena in the 41st over.
Symonds had walked three-quarters of the way to the boundary and the Sri Lankans were celebrating a crucial wicket when Sri Lankan Manuel changed his decision.
Symonds, almost off the ground by this stage, was called back by the Manuel and fellow umpire Billy Bowden.
the series is now level at 1. Hogg had a notable 5 wickets in the game.

I thought we batted quite well in the run chase, and probably should have won after Hayden and Ponting put on such a good partnership for the second wicket, but it's always difficult chasing a target in the sub-continent, especially when the opposition bowling attack consists mainly of spinners.

I just got done reading this guy's book: Playing Hard Ball: A Kent County Cricketer's Journey into Big League Baseball. Quite interesting, especially for an American. I've played cricket a few times (though not enough to actually understand much strategy... I relied on somebody to tell me where to stand pretty much every time), but this clears up some things, and is very well written.
I was going to ask you guys ifyou know any other good books on cricket (I work in a library, so I can get things on loan pretty easily from other libraries), but then I came across this site:
http://www.idontlikecricket.co.uk
which is pretty helpful, though I'm not sure what it has in terms of older books.

If you are looking for books about the game, rather than "how to play" instrauctional books, anything by Peter Roebuck, Henry Blofeld, Mike Coward or Gideon Haigh is pretty good.
The best "how to play" I've ever read is The Art of Cricket by Sir Donald Bradman - a bit out of date now, but a classic.
