a bit shocking to see the day close with chopra and sehwag bot get out with only 27 for 2.

Waughs last stand?
as Waugh trudged off to yet another ovation, the whispers began. "It can't end this way,"...

wow, seems like it would have been a crappy way to end a career, must have been some site though to have him come back out later to bat. anyone at the game or get a chance to see the highlights?

oh, and just a reminder, the VB Series (ODI's) starts jan 9th, the teams in this year are Australia, Zimbabwe, and India.

Looking forward to the 4th Aust v India test. Going to the 4th day on Monday.

Yes, it would have been good to have another 1st tier team here for the Tri-Series ODI's, but the schedules are all pretty full.

Australia fought back to allow the test series against India to end in a 1-1 draw.

And Steve Waugh, playing in his final test match, was inspirational beyond belief.

Waugh goes out fighting -- The ABC (http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/s1020944.htm)

Australia finished on 6 for 357 chasing 443 to win in the final innings, drawing the match and ensuring the series ended in the 1-1 stalemate which India needed to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Yeah Bhoys, not bad - nice day, plenty of beer & pies and a bit of good cricket.

It was a major shame that Waugh got out the night before, but I am a bit of a Katich fan so it was good to see him get a hundred.

The Indian innings was a bit of an anticlimax, as you knew a declaration was inevitable. Lee was bowling absolute rubbish too (apart from his first spell which was scarily fast).

It was a shame that Waugh didn't give himself a bit of a bowl, but the ovation was pretty good. Sorry I couldn't get there yesterday, but we had the TV on at work.

I'm not a huge fan of the ODI's, but it's still cricket.

a really good read on the India/Australia Test.

A celebration of cricket (http://aus.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2004/JAN/039849_AUS_07JAN2004.html)

probably the best statement in the article; which i think could be overlook with waughs retirement-
"After the game, his wonderful, deserved, sendoff seemed to obscure the reality that 1-1 was a poor result for Australians."

looks like the writer agrees with you craig (me as well)-
"Waugh's job was made infinitely harder because his bowlers and fielders decomposed. .... Brett Lee went from not-bad to crap."

other news-
Australia A too strong for Zimbabwe (http://aus.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2004/JAN/039618_AUS_07JAN2004.html)
.....In an ominous premonition of what lies in store in the VB Series later this month, Zimbabwe were overwhelmed by 119 runs

why were they invited, there were definitely better teams that should/could have been invited.
