For my next pick I choose what I currently think is the best comedy out there that isn't a cartoon. To me is the craziest and most irreverent show out there and is totally hilarious when it's good. A pretty good cast that is supported with the best guest stars out there. And a pretty good return for Bob Odenkirk too. My next pick is: Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

This are too examples although they are nowhere near the best of what they have produced. Still funny though. And Patton Oswalt is in one of them which makes it awesome in my book.

The show that launched a rash of TV programs starring stand up comics.

The Huxtables were actually white. Roseanne's family was actually not-white.

I was beaten to the Muppet Show, dammit. But I'll take the next best thing.

Dammit! That was going to be a pick of mine in the next couple of rounds. Excellent show. I actually recently introduced this show to my six year old daughter and she loved it.

ok, when I embed this one it says video not available, yet if you follow the link it should work. It's the part where Theo gets his earring and Cliff comes into his room.

Sixth Choice: Project Runway (2005-present):
http://burslifechangingblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/project-runway.jpg

Heide Klum's reality show is surprisingly fun to watch. I ignored it for a while thinking it had more to do with models, but fell into a few episodes and realized it is about aspiring fashion designers competing for a chance to make it big, and the models really just wear the designers outfits for the judges to score.

Project Runway takes around 12 designers and has them compete each week on various sewing challenges. Sometimes they do goofy things like shopping for the materials in a grocery store or making outfits for each other. Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Nina Garcia, Micheal Kors, and other guest judges comment on the designers talents and choices. The designers are all in the same big room making their stuff , while remarking on other people's work.

This clip is long (8:45), but really at minute 6:00 is when a designer, Kenley, rips into the judges because she is being defensive:

I think Project Runway and one other show made by the same producers are the only good reality shows ever put on TV - and they are very good. I think the key feature is that the show has actual talented people doing something that requires skill.

Project Runway is an awesome pick.

For my next pick:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/ed/Red_Dwarf_logo.png/250px-Red_Dwarf_logo.png

The last human in existence is stranded aboard an enormous spaceship, 3 million years in the future, with only a neurotic hologram, a sanitation robot, and a humanoid feline (evolved from his own pregnant pet cat) for company.

Part space adventure, mostly silly, always hilarious.

My sixth pick:

21 Jumpstreet - American Crime Drama 1987-1991

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/23/21_Jump_Street_title_card.jpg/250px-21_Jump_Street_title_card.jpg

Any show that helped boost Johnny Depp into stardom is worth a pick in my book. This show was about a bunch of young detectives who went undercover at High Schools and colleges. The show was known for covering a lot of controversial topics like drugs, AIDS, underage drinking, etc.

This show helped boost the popularity of crime dramas. It was edgy, well-written and went where a lot of network programs wouldnt go at that time.

I am having trouble finding decent clips so feel free to post any if you find them. i will dig a little more when I have more time.

My picks so far:

1. Cheers
2. Boston Legal
3. National Geographic Explorer
4. South Park
5. The Real World
6. 21 Jumpstreet

Our Friends in the North

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40909000/jpg/_40909488_craig_north3.jpg

I call this the British "La meglio gioventù" (which, incidentally, was also meant to have been a mini-series initially). It tells the story of four friends over the span of several decades. Each episode focuses on a different year. Basically, just like its Italian counterpart, it tells the history of the country they inhabit through the lives of its four protagonists.

Choices so far:

1. Monthy Python's flying circus
2. Blackadder
3. The Fast Show
4. Northern Exposure
5. Later... with Jools Holland
6. Our friends in the North

the demographic that the Huxtables fell in is probably 98% white.

the demographic that Roseanne's family fell in is probably 51% non-white.

I'd like to politely ask we put a cork in the Cosby/Roseanne discussion. Sounds overly speculative, potentially volatile and more suited for the Politics forum.

Although if folks think it's relevant and can be held respectfully, I'm happy to be proven wrong.

After reading "I am going to take a courtroom drama" with Law And Order already off the board, I was scared that one of my favorite courtroon dramas would not be still on the board. As a result, with my next pick, I am going to select the show that is partially responsible with me actually being an attorney.

I select LA Law

I get Jimmy Smits, Corbin Bernsen, an adult Susan Dey and that guy from Clash of the Titans!

Just kidding......

One of the few scenes on youtube.
The show won numerous awards, including the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in 1987, 1989, 1990, and 1991. Some of the actors, such as Larry Drake, also received Emmys for their performances. The series shares the Emmy Award record for most acting nominations by regular cast members (excluding the guest performer category) for a single series in one year with Hill Street Blues and The West Wing.

For the 1988-1989 season, nine cast members were nominated for Emmys. Larry Drake was the only one to win (for Supporting Actor). The others nominated were Michael Tucker (Lead Actor), Jill Eikenberry and Susan Dey (for Lead Actress), Richard Dysart and Jimmy Smits (Supporting Actor), Amanda Plummer, Susan Ruttan and Michele Greene (for Supporting Actress).

My picks:
1. All in the Family
2. The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson
3. Dallas
4. The Andy Griffith Show
5. LA Law

Red Dwarf is a great pick. I used to love that programme. As with most it went off the boil at the end, but the first 6 series were excellent.

I think that one of the biggest acclaims that the Cosby Show had in the black community was that it showed a different side to the black community. I thought that was a big part of the show. That is all I'm saying since it has already been commented not to continue the discussion.
