Looks like Real is looking at Henry and Owen. $50 million is the number being tossed around.

Two things:

1. Would Arsenal sell Henry? Even for $50 million? He's signed through 2007 and has timne and time again stated his love of London (something mentioned by GvB in another article) And if he was sold would that be the start of a Highbury exodus of Viera, Pires, et.al.?

2. Where in the hell would they play him and who would be forced out?

No offense to the author of this article, but give me a fu!@n break. They have Raul and Ronaldo, and Guti, who I think is underrated, coming off the bench. Also if they need anything it's an actual defense, not another striker.

I think madrid is buying players just so other teams can't have them.

Keep in mind also that Barca is known to be looking at Henry and Owen as well, so this very well might be Real's way of driving the price out of Barca's reach or, at the very least, making Barca spend a ton on one player. Remember, Barca is still looking for that one big name player after they failed in the Beckham sweepstakes last year, and I think the top striker in the world (Henry) would do that.

when chelsea were talking about bidding for henry, hill-wood said he wouldn't sell him for £80m. i highly doubt that he will ever leave highbury. and if on the off chance that they do decide to sell him, i doubt henry would agree to personal terms unless it is a city that can rival london as far as overall atmosphere. i personally have never been to a city that can beat london. i look forward to henry finishing out his career at arsenal

Something dramatic would have to happen for Henry to go. I understand players change, but Henry has said that he would sign his career to Arsenal if they really asked him to. He loves London and the English football culture.

If Real couldn't get Viera, they don't have a shot at Henry.

I don't think Real would suit Henry anyway. He seems genuinely happy at Arsenal, unlike any other player including Vieira. I'm not saying he'll never leave but I don't see him at Real or even Barcelona. I think Henry might come to America in 5 or 6 years. He does have friends here and seems comfortable here by all accounts. Sol Campbell HAS said the idea of playing in America interests him down the line. I could see Henry and Campbell playing in New York or Los Angeles. But Henry doesn't seem like he'd be comfortable with the OFF-PITCH pressure of playing in Spain having experienced similar unpleasantness for himself in Italy with Juve. He might consider playing there a year down the line-what player wouldn't fancy being able to say he played for Real Madrid? But I just don't think he would be satisfied with playing in Spain for any period of time and he's very happy by all accounts at Highbury. He's enjoying cause everyone can appreciate an extra 10,000 a week on their next contract extension. As for the Board selling him...only if we were in similar difficulties as Leeds. Henry is very marketable in England in Europe and to a lesser extent right now here. Here he is second to-for ALL the WRONG reasons-FREDDIE Ljungberg. That is one interesting side bit if we were to go deep in the European Cup or even win it, and that is would the likes of Henry and Vieira and Freddie and Sol become as big round the world and here as Becks and Ronaldo and Zidane and Roberto Carlos....that would be interesting for sure...

I understand your point, but it doesn't really make any sense for Real. I mean ok hypathetically if the get TH, they will have to get rid of someone, most likely one of their star forwards, so who? Also, if you look at the Spanish tables, Barca isn't exactley tearing up the league. Real have other teams in front of them to worry about, and maybe more importantly, other European teams to think of.

I don't think it's so far fetched. Barça was pretty bitter when Becks landed with Real after all the speculation and guarantees that he'd be playing for Barcelona. So Real doing everything they can to be a thorn in Barcelona's side wouldn't surprise me at all. Plus Barcelona's in 4th in La Liga so I think Real should worry.

But as for Henry, I hope he stays. I can't imagine the Gunners without him.

Hilarious.

I was wondering how long there would be an "official" rumor that Real wanted him.

Imagine my shock when I saw two huge billboards of Freddy right smack in the middle of Times Square. Even my fianceé, who has patiently suffered my Arsenal mania over the years didn't recognize him. She thought he was just another eye candy pretty boy in his underwear.
Madrid doesn't really want another striker. They want to annoy Barça and sign a megastar midfielder to replace Makelele. Last week would not happened if Claude hadn't moved to Stamford Bridge.

First of all, Henry went on record this August or so saying that he wouldn't leave Arsenal, that he wants Viera and Pires to stay so they can be the "French Connection" so to speak, the core of the team.

Second, Arsenal would be idiots to lose him.

Third, I can't sleep so I turned on my PC, stumbled upon this thread and now I have a vision of a giant Freddy Ljungberg in his tighty whities. Thanks a heap.
